On territorial behavior and other factors influencing habitat distribution in birds
TLDR
In this article, the Dickcissel sex ratio is employed as an indirect index of suitability and a sex ratio index was found to be correlated positively with density, consistent with the hypothesis that territorial behavior in males of this species limits their density.Abstract:
This example is provided so that non-theorists may see actual applications of the theory previously described. The Dickcissel sex ratio is employed as an indirect index of suitability. A sex ratio index was found to be correlated positively with density. This is consistent with the hypothesis that territorial behavior in the males of this species limits their density. This study provides a valid example of how the problem can be approached and offers a first step in the eventual identification of the role of territorial behavior in the habitat distribution of a common species.read more

Predator and prey space use: dragonflies and tadpoles in an interactive game
TL;DR: Three measures of joint space use concurred in suggesting that prey avoidance of predators was more important than predator attraction to prey in determining overall spatial patterns, which qualitatively fit the predictions of several three trophic level, ideal free distribution models.

The scale-dependent impact of wolf predation risk on resource selection by three sympatric ungulates
TL;DR: Results indicate that wolf predation risk does not limit ungulate habitat use at the scales investigated and that responses to spatial sources ofpredation risk are complex, incorporating a variety of anti-predator behaviours.

Habitat selection by predators and prey in communities with asymmetrical intraguild predation
TL;DR: A game theoretic model of habitat use by predators and prey under conditions of asymmetrical intraguild predation stresses the importance of indirect interactions in structuring habitat use in communities and the need to view habitat selection in a community context.

Changes in breeding bird populations in north dakota: 1967 to 1992-93
TL;DR: Comparing breeding bird populations in North Dakota using surveys in 1967 and 1992-93 indicated that species exhibiting significant declines were primarily grassland- and wetland-breeding birds, whereas species exhibitingsignificant increases primarily were those associated with human structures and woody vegetation.

The echo pattern of species diversity: pattern and processes

TL;DR: In this article, the authors use the three scales of species-area to illuminate the relationship between local and regional diversity, the Echo pattern, and show that even when different islands are used as the regions, the Echoes should show only very gentle curvatures.

Animal dispersion in relation to social behaviour
TL;DR: Wynne-Edwards has written this interesting and important book as a sequel to his earlier (1962) Animal Dispersion in Relation to Social Behaviour, and reviewing it has proven to be a valuable task for one who normally is only at the periphery of the group selection controversy.
