One of the most debatable features of Event driven Process Chains (EPCs) is their non-local semantics.Abstract:
One of the most debatable features of Event driven Process Chains (EPCs) is their non-local semantics. Most non-local semantics for EPCs either have a formal flaw or no formal definition is given at all.read more

Business Process Management: A Comprehensive Survey
Wmp Wil van der Aalst, van der +1 more
TL;DR: The practical relevance of BPM and rapid developments over the last decade justify a comprehensive survey and an overview of the state-of-the-art in BPM.
Journal ArticleDOI
Business process management (BPM) standards: a survey
TL;DR: An attempt is made to classify BPM languages, standards and notations into four main groups: execution, interchange, graphical, and diagnosis standards.

Soundness of workflow nets: classification, decidability, and analysis
W.M.P. van der Aalst,K.M. van Hee,A.H.M. ter Hofstede,Natalia Sidorova,H. M. W. Verbeek,Marc Voorhoeve,Moe Thandar Wynn +6 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the eight soundness notions described in the literature are decidable for workflow nets, however, most extensions will make all of these notions undecidable.

Petri Net Transformations for Business Processes --- A Survey
TL;DR: This paper investigates a number of Petri net transformations that already exist, and investigates the transformation itself, the constructs in the business models that are problematic for the transformation and the main applications for the transformed models.

TL;DR: ProM 4.0 as mentioned in this paper is the most recent version of ProM and it supports conformance checking, model extension, model transformation, verification, and verification of Petri nets.

YAWL: yet another workflow language
TL;DR: This paper motivates the need for a new workflow language, specifies the semantics of the language, and shows that soundness can be verified in a compositional way.

Managing business processes as an information resource
Frank Leymann,W. Altenhuber +1 more
TL;DR: A system that supports the two fundamental aspects of business process management, namely the modeling of processes and their execution; the meta-model of the system deals with models of business processes as weighted, colored, directed graphs of activities.
On the semantics of EPCs: A vicious circle
TL;DR: It is shown that there is no sound formal semantics for EPCs that is fully compliant with the informal semantics, and some consequences are discussed.

TL;DR: The Ereignisgesteuerte Prozesskette (EPK) wurde zur Dokumentation von Geschaftsprozessen entwickelt und hat in der Praxis eine weite Verbreitung gefunden. as discussed by the authors erfolgt eine Formalisierung des Kontrollfluss- konzeptes auf der Grundlage der ursprunglichen EPK-Syntax and -Semantik.

Petri Net Based Certification of Event-Driven Process Chains
TL;DR: The paper shows that EPCs can be translated into a simple class of colored Petri nets, which have a single color of type Boole and formulas from propositional logic as guards, which fixes the semantics of E PCs and allows a formal analysis of the EPC-method.
