Origin and sequence of chromosome replication in Escherichia coli

TLDR
Two methods have been used to determine the origin and direction of chromosome replication in Escherichia coli: gradient of marker frequency and sequence of replication in synchronized cultures, and DNA-DNA hybridization was used to assay for gene dosage.

Partitioning of bacterial plasmids during cell division: a cis-acting locus that accomplishes stable plasmid inheritance

TL;DR: The par locus, which appears to be functionally equivalent to the centromere of eucaryotic cells, is able to rescue unstable pSC101-derived replicons or an unrelated par- P15A-derived multicopy replicon in the cis, but not the trans, configuration.

Transcription and translation initiation frequencies of the Escherichia coli lac operon.

TL;DR: The results show that the frequencies of translation initiations can differ for different messages and the faster decay of a compared to z message is consistent with a model in which a ribosome can protect a vulnerable site near the start of a message from inactivation.
Journal ArticleDOI

The DnaA protein determines the initiation mass of Escherichia coli K-12.

TL;DR: The synchrony of multiple initiations within one cell was close to that found in a wild-type control cell, showing that a cyclic variation in DnaA content is not necessary for a high degree of synchrony.

TL;DR: The peak-to-peak range in reported values of L as a measure of the amplitude of variability in the solar luminosity is roughly four times as large as the root-meansquare amplitude.

A study of the conditions and mechanism of the diphenylamine reaction for the colorimetric estimation of deoxyribonucleic acid

TL;DR: The present study arose from the observation that a more intense colour was sometimes produced if, instead of being heated at 1000 for 10 min., the reaction mixture was allowed to stand overnight at room temperature.

Transduction of linked genetic characters of the host by bacteriophage P1

TL;DR: Transduction of characters between bacteria of the coli and dysentery groups indicates genetic homologies between these groups.

Chromosome replication and the division cycle of Escherichia coli B/r

TL;DR: It is suggested that the replication of the bacterial genome during the division cycle of Escherichia coli Br growing with doubling times between approximately 20 and 60 minutes can be described by two constants: C and D, the time for a replication point to traverse the genome.

HIGH-RESOLUTION AUTORADIOGRAPHY : I. Methods

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe methods used in obtaining high resolution in autoradiography, with special emphasis on the technique of electron microscopic autoregressive imaging, together with control experiments designed to establish the optimum conditions or procedures.
