TLDR
The utilization of neuraxial versus general anesthesia for primary joint arthroplasty is associated with superior perioperative outcomes and more research is needed to study potential mechanisms for these findings.
Abstract
Background The impact of anesthetic technique on perioperative outcomes remains controversial. We studied a large national sample of primary joint arthroplasty recipients and hypothesized that neuraxial anesthesia favorably influences perioperative outcomes.

Consensus statement for perioperative care in total hip replacement and total knee replacement surgery: Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS ®) Society recommendations

TL;DR: There is insufficient evidence to recommend that one surgical technique (type of approach, use of a minimally invasive technique, prosthesis choice, or use of computer-assisted surgery) over another will independently effect achievement of discharge criteria.

Projections of primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty in the United States from 2005 to 2030.

TL;DR: These large projected increases in demand for total hip and knee arthroplasties provide a quantitative basis for future policy decisions related to the numbers of orthopaedic surgeons needed to perform these procedures and the deployment of appropriate resources to serve this need.

Assessing the performance of prediction models: a framework for traditional and novel measures.

TL;DR: It is suggested that reporting discrimination and calibration will always be important for a prediction model and decision-analytic measures should be reported if the predictive model is to be used for clinical decisions.
