The role of diosgenin in diabetes and diabetic complications.

TL;DR: The effects of diosgenin through multiple targets and multiple pathways in diabetes and its complications which including diabetic nephropathy, diabetic liver disease, diabetic neuropathy, diabetic vascular disease, diabetes cardiomyopathy, diabetic reproductive dysfunction, and diabetic eye disease are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI

TRIM21 and PHLDA3 negatively regulate the crosstalk between the PI3K/AKT pathway and PPP metabolism

TL;DR: A reciprocal positive feedback crosstalk between the PI3K/AKT and pentose phosphate pathway which promotes tumourigenesis is shown which suggests that blockade of this reciprocal crosStalk mechanism may have a therapeutic benefit for cancers with PTEN loss or PI3k/ AKT activation.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Effects of Diosgenin on Hypolipidemia and Its Underlying Mechanism: A Review.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the latest evidence related to diosgenin and hyperlipidemia from clinical and animal studies, including its role in inhibition of intestinal absorption of lipids, regulation of cholesterol transport, promotion of cholesterol conversion into bile acid and its excretion, inhibition of endogenous lipid biosynthesis, antioxidation and lipoprotein lipase activity and regulation of transcription factors related to lipid metabolism.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antiaging agents: safe interventions to slow aging and healthy life span extension

TL;DR: A review on the properties of slow aging and healthy life span extension of natural products from various biological resources, endogenous substances, drugs, and synthetic compounds, as well as the mechanisms of targets for antiaging evaluation are discussed in this paper .
Journal ArticleDOI

Do Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and Its Sulfate (DHEAS) Play a Role in the Stress Response in Domestic Animals

TL;DR: The potential use of DHEA in conjunction with cortisol to improve the definition of the stress phenotype in farmed animals is discussed and the extra-adrenal contribution to circulating D HEA is explored.

Endocrine and intracrine sources of androgens in women: Inhibition of breast cancer and other roles of androgens and their precursor dehydroepiandrosterone

TL;DR: DHEA has been found to increase bone mineral density and to stimulate vaginal maturation without affecting the endometrium, while improving well-being and libido with no significant side effects and thus minimizing the potential side effects observed with androgens or estrogens administered systemically.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Effect of Six Months Treatment With a 100 Mg Daily Dose of Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) on Circulating Sex Steroids, Body Composition and Muscle Strength in Age-Advanced Men and Women

TL;DR: The effect of a larger dose (100 mg) of DHEA for a longer duration (6 months) on circulating sex steroids, body composition (DEXA) and muscle strength (MedX) was assessed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Natural androgens inhibit male atherosclerosis: a study in castrated, cholesterol-fed rabbits.

TL;DR: Natural androgens inhibit aortic atherosclerosis in castrated male rabbits only partly through a lipid-mediated effect, and ANCOVA indicated that the androgen effect on aorto-atherosclerosis was only in part explained by the changes in lipoproteins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Endogenous sex hormones and cardiovascular disease in men.

TL;DR: The studies reviewed in this article suggest that circulating endogenous sex hormones and estrogens have a neutral or beneficial effect on cardiovascular disease in men.
