Phospholipid asymmetry of goat sperm plasma membrane during epididymal maturation

TLDR
The data demonstrate asymmetry of phospholipids and their fatty acids in the sperm inner and outer plasma membranes and this lipid asymmetry is greatly altered during epididymal maturity of the male gametes.

Bicarbonate/CO2, an effector of capacitation, induces a rapid and reversible change in the lipid architecture of boar sperm plasma membranes

TL;DR: It is found that bicarbonate causes a rapid increase in the ability of live boar spermatozoa to bind merocyanine, apparently by perturbing enzymic control processes.

Lipid heterogeneity and membrane fluidity in a highly polarized cell, the mammalian spermatozoon

TL;DR: This review summarizes current knowledge of how the membrane organization of the mammalian spermatozoon is determined by its complex mixture of lipids.

Changes in lipids and membrane anisotropy in human spermatozoa during epididymal maturation.

TL;DR: During epididymal maturation human spermatozoa integrate lipids, particularly PC, which is strongly associated with the induction of progressive motility, and a change in the pattern of fatty acids and a decrease in the cholesterol/phospholipid molar ratio cause a decreases in membrane anisotropy in cauda spermatozosa.

Flow cytometric detection of transbilayer movement of fluorescent phospholipid analogues across the boar sperm plasma membrane: elimination of labeling artifacts.

TL;DR: A method based on fluorescence resonance energy transfer was used to ensure that incorporation of the fluorescent phospholipids into the sperm proceeded via monomeric transfer and enables, for the first time, assessment of changes in lipid asymmetry under fertilizing conditions.
