Preparation and characterization of a hormone-responsive renal plasma membrane fraction.

TLDR
A renal plasma membrane fraction has been prepared by homogenization and differential centrifugation in an isotonic sucrose solution in 10 mm Tris, pH 7.5, and 1 mm ethylenediaminetetraacetate that showed a striking decrease in specific activity of marker enzymes for endoplasmic reticulum and brush border, but a 2.7-fold increase in thespecific activity of Na-K-ATPase.

HK-2: an immortalized proximal tubule epithelial cell line from normal adult human kidney.

TL;DR: An immortalized adult human PTC line has been established by transduction with HPV 16 E6/E7 genes and it appears to be well-differentiated on the basis of its histochemical, immune cytochemical, and functional characteristics, and it can reproduce experimental results obtained with freshly isolated PTCs.

Membrane receptors and hormone action.

TL;DR: This chapter describes the relation between biological activity and binding, physicochemical detection and assay of receptors, solubilization of membrane receptors, examples of membrane-localized receptors, affinity techniques, polyvalent hormone derivatives, and receptor studies, and theoretical mechanisms of hormone–receptor binding and action.

Peripheral benzodiazepine binding sites: effect of PK 11195, 1-(2-chlorophenyl)-N-methyl-(1-methylpropyl)-3 isoquinolinecarboxamide. II. In vivo studies.

TL;DR: In this article, a new compound, chemically unrelated to benzodiazepines, which is a potent inhibitor of [ 3 H] R05-4864 in vitro is also very effective after I.P. injection and oral administration.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interaction of calcitonin and calcitonin gene-related peptide at receptor sites in target tissues.

TL;DR: The relative abilities of C GRP and mammalian CT to inhibit CT binding suggest that CGRP could serve as an endogenous ligand for CT receptors in the central nervous system.

Preparation of Iodine-131 Labelled Human Growth Hormone of High Specific Activity

W M Hunter, +1 more
- 05 May 1962 -
TL;DR: Current procedures for the immunological assay of protein hormones in human plasma require the routine preparation of hormones labelled with iodine-131 of high specific activity, and this work demonstrates the importance of knowing the carrier and removal status of iodine.

A modified method for the isolation of the plasma membrane from rat liver

TL;DR: A modified method for the isolation of the plasma membrane from rat liver has been developed and the concentration of Ca2+ and the degree of the homogenizing medium are critical factors in obtaining membranes in high yield and with high activity of the characteristic plasma membrane enzymes.
