Production of amorphadiene in yeast, and its conversion to dihydroartemisinic acid, precursor to the antimalarial agent artemisinin

TL;DR: Progress is described toward the goal of developing a supply of semisynthetic artemisinin based on production of the art Artemisinin precursor amorpha-4,11-diene by fermentation from engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and its chemical conversion to dihydroartemisinic acid, which can be subsequently converted to artemis inin.
Journal ArticleDOI

A novel chromium trioxide catalyzed oxidation of primary alcohols to the carboxylic acids

TL;DR: In this article, a novel CrO 3 catalyzed oxidation of primary alcohols to the carboxylic acids was reported, and the oxidation proceeds smoothly with only 1−2 mol % of CrO3 and 2.5 equivalents of H 5 IO 6 in wet MeCN.

1-N-Iminosugars: Potent and Selective Inhibitors of β-Glycosidases

TL;DR: A series of 1-N-iminosugars were synthesized to supply the need for glycosidase inhibitors that are both highly potent and selective for β-glycosidases, designed on the basis of the transition-state model of the β-glucosidase reaction.

Giant regular polyhedra from calixarene carboxylates and uranyl

TL;DR: Novel, self-assembled cages are reported, using the conical-shaped carboxylic acid derivatives of calix[4]arene and calix-arene as ligands, and the uranyl cation UO(2)2+ as a metallic counterpart, which coordinates with three carboxylates at the equatorial plane, giving rise to hexagonal bipyramidal architectures.
