Metadata are the information about and description of data. In Digital Earth, metadata become variant and heterogeneous with many uncertainties. This paper studies uncertain features in the generation and application of metadata, and two types of uncertainties (incomplete and imprecise) are described based on semantic quantitative measurement method semantic relationship quantitative measurement based on possibilistic logic and probability statistic (SRQ-PP). Moreover, in the case study, we apply two types of quantitative measurements based on SRQ-PP to describe incomplete (uncertain) knowledge and imprecise (vague) information separately in spatial data service retrieval, which in turn is helpful to identify additional potential data resources and provide a quantitative analysis of the results.read more

Mapping mangrove changes in the Matang Mangrove Forest using multi temporal satellite imageries
TL;DR: In this article, the status and changes of land use and land cover in the Matang Mangrove Forest during the past 18 years (1993-1999, 1999 to 2011 and 1993 to 2011) were determined using multi-temporal satellites, and threats to the ecosystems were also identified.

Building Extraction from Airborne Laser Scanning Data: An Analysis of the State of the Art
TL;DR: An overview of building extraction approaches applied to Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) data by examining elements used in original publications, such as data set area, accuracy measures, reference data for accuracy assessment, and the use of auxiliary data demonstrates that ALS data is certainly a valuable source of spatial information for building extraction.

Real-time self-driving car navigation and obstacle avoidance using mobile 3D laser scanner and GNSS
TL;DR: The quantitative results from extensive experiments indicate that the developed VFH method with the modern real-time 3D LiDAR generally outperform the conventional LIDAR in terms of efficiency, accuracy and reliability.

TL;DR: The overall structure of the ontology, the service profile for advertising services, and the process model for the detailed description of the operation of services are described, which compare DAML-S with several industry efforts to define standards for characterizing services on the Web.

Toward the semantic geospatial web
TL;DR: By explicitly representing the role of semantics in different components of the information retrieval process (people, interfaces, search systems, and information resources), the Semantic Geospatial Web will enable users to retrieve more precisely the data they need, based on the semantics associated with these data.

Ontology Learning and Reasoning -- Dealing with Uncertainty and Inconsistency
Peter Haase,Johanna Völker +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an approach to generate consistent OWL ontologies from automatically generated or enriched ontology models, which takes into account the uncertainty of the acquired knowledge, and illustrate and evaluate the application of their approach with two experiments in the scenarios of consistent evolution of learned ontologies and enrichment of ontologies with disjointness axioms.

A geo-service semantic integration in Spatial Data Infrastructures
TL;DR: This paper discusses an approach of how to semantically coordinate geographic services, which is based on a view of the semantics of web service coordination, implemented by using the Lightweight Coordination Calculus (LCC) language.
