TLDR
In this paper, the tenability of a hypothetical construct of interest as it applies to the secondary mathematics classroom was proposed and empirically assessed, and the results indicate that it is useful to distinguish between personal and situational interest.
Abstract
The present study attempted to tackle a hurdle that continues to plague the research on interest: the lack of an adequate theoretical model. In particular, the tenability of a hypothetical construct of interest as it applies to the secondary mathematics classroom was proposed and empirically assessed. Building on previous theoretical work, the study used qualitative and quantitative methodologies to first develop a model and then assess its construct validity. The results indicate that it is useful to distinguish between personal and situational interest. Furthermore, the results indicate that the structure of situational interest is multifaceted, clarifying 5 subfacets of situational interest in the high school mathematics classroom

The relationship between student interest and teacher's use of behavior alteration techniques

TL;DR: This article found that pro-social teacher behaviors are related to increased levels of student interest and that different teacher behaviors were differentially related to the separate dimensions of interest, which supports earlier assertions by Weber, Martin and Patterson (2001) that interest is a multifaceted construct providing teachers with different avenues to influence their students' affective responses.

On educating, curiosity, and interest development

TL;DR: A review as discussed by the authors provides curiosity researchers and neuroscientists with information about the distinction as well as the relation between curiosity and interest, and their potential to benefit educational practice, making suggestions about how the coordination of research on curiosity-and interest development could benefit education practice.

Speedometry: A Vehicle for Promoting Interest and Engagement through Integrated STEM Instruction.

TL;DR: The Hot Wheels Speedometry curriculum as discussed by the authors was designed to align with the Next Generation Science Standards for science and the Common Core State Standards for mathematics, and it showed promise for the development of interest and engagement in underrepresented groups through the use of an integrated STEM curriculum.

School geography: what interests students, what interests teacher?

TL;DR: This paper found that students are rarely asked about what they want to learn, but when they are asked, the students readily identify topics of personal relevance with a hands-on compon...

Comparative fit indexes in structural models

TL;DR: A new coefficient is proposed to summarize the relative reduction in the noncentrality parameters of two nested models and two estimators of the coefficient yield new normed (CFI) and nonnormed (FI) fit indexes.

Significance tests and goodness of fit in the analysis of covariance structures

TL;DR: In this article, a general null model based on modified independence among variables is proposed to provide an additional reference point for the statistical and scientific evaluation of covariance structure models, and the importance of supplementing statistical evaluation with incremental fit indices associated with the comparison of hierarchical models.

How We Think

TL;DR: In this article, the importance of critical thinking and the vital role education should play in the development of the critical thinking skills of children has been highlighted, and an appreciation of this correlation and a recognition of its value in educational practice can promote individual happiness and reduce social waste.
