Isoelectric focusing of human hemoglobin: its application to screening, to the characterization of 70 variants, and to the study of modified fractions of normal hemoglobins

TL;DR: Among the 70 variants, 31 mutants could not be separated from HbS by cellulose acetate electrophoresis, and preliminary results indicate that quantitation of HbA1C by gel scanning is feasible.

Separation of human hemoglobins by DEAE-cellulose chromatography using glycine-KCN-NaC1 developers.

TL;DR: This chromatographic procedure uses DEAE-cellulose as ion exchanger and glycine-KCN-NaC1 solutions as developers and the separation of many hemoglobins types is greatly improved.

F-cells in the adult: normal values and levels in individuals with hereditary and acquired elevations of Hb F

TL;DR: A strong linear correlation between the amount of Hb F and proportion of F-cells was observed and this technique may prove useful in studies of a variety of disorders associated with HB F elevations and also in investigations of the mechanisms controlling the transition from fetal to adult hemoglobin during the course of human development.

Determination of the Glycosylated Hemoglobins (Hb AI) with a New Microcolumn Procedure: Suitability of the Technique for Assessing the Clinical Management of Diabetes Mellitus

TL;DR: Comparison of the Hb AI (Hb AIa+b+c) determinations showed an acceptable correlation of percentages obtained by the relatively laborious macrocolumn procedure and the more facile microcolumn procedure, indicating that the latter would be clinically useful.

Nonenzymatic covalent posttranslational modification of proteins in vivo

TL;DR: In vivo analysis of non-enzymatic covalent post-translational modification of proteins in vivo is presented and is subdivided according to the nature of the chemical reactions and the types of compounds binding to proteins.

Studies on the heterogeneity of hemoglobin. IX. The use of Tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethanehcl buffers in the anion-exchange chromatography of hemoglobins.

TL;DR: A modified procedure for the separation of various hemoglobin types by anion exchange chromatography has been presented andDEAE-Sephadex, A-50 medium, was preferred over DEAE-cellulose as chromatographic medium.

Studies on the heterogeneity of hemoglobin. 13. Chromatography of various human and animal hemoglobin types on DEAE-Sephadex.

TL;DR: The replacement of the DEAE-Sephadex A-50, 100 to 270 mesh, by a similar preparation, but particle size 40 to 120 μ, greatly improved the resolution of several human and animal hemoglobin types.

Studies on the heterogeneity of hemoglobin. I. The heterogeneity of different human hemoglobin types in carboxymethylcellulose and in amberlite IRC-50 chromatography qualitative aspects.

TL;DR: Hemoglobin samples from normal adult individuals, from newborn babies and from patients suffering from some hemoglobinopathies were studied by different analytical procedures and a close relation between the heterogeneities found by starch block electrophoresis and by chromatography on CM-cellulose as well as on Amberlite IRC-50 was demonstrated.
