TLDR
In this paper, molecular-sieve chromatography is used to estimate number-average molecular weights of A. senegal gum produced on autohydrolysis and the results obtained using this chromatographic technique on the degraded gum indicate that such mild conditions of hydrolysis are not always very selective as a means of degradation.

Exudate gums: occurrence, production, and applications

TL;DR: A review of the industrially most relevant exudate gums: gum arabic, gum karya, and gum tragacanth, which covers the chemical structure, occurrence and production of the different gums.

Form and function of arabinogalactans and arabinogalactan-proteins

TL;DR: The structural relationships between arabino-3,6-galactans from gymnosperm wood, gum exudates of Acacia and other trees, and from plant callus cells and whole tissues are discussed and the nature of these proteoglycans is compared with the arabinose and galactose containing cell wall glycoproteins.

A review of recent developments on the regulatory, structural and functional aspects of gum arabic.

TL;DR: The aim of this paper is to summarize what is now known about the structure of this complex polysaccharide and to illustrate how the structural features relate to its functional properties, notably its ability to stabilize oil-in-water emulsions and to form concentrated solutions of low viscosity.

Biological effects of gum arabic: a review of some recent research.

TL;DR: GA has proabsorptive properties and can be used in diarrhoea, and has some antimicrobial activity, suggesting a possible use in dentistry, but more studies are needed before its pharmacological properties can be utilized in therapy.

Colorimetric Method for Determination of Sugars and Related Substances

TL;DR: In this article, a method was developed to determine submicro amounts of sugars and related substances using a phenol-sulfuric acid reaction, which is useful for the determination of the composition of polysaccharides and their methyl derivatives.

Estimation of the molecular weights of proteins by Sephadex gel-filtration.

P Andrews
- 01 May 1964 -
TL;DR: The results are similar to those of previous studies, where the objective was to establish a cause-and-effect relationship, rather than a straightforward relationship between the number of cells and the content of the molecule.

The gel-filtration behaviour of proteins related to their molecular weights over a wide range

P Andrews
- 01 Sep 1965 -
TL;DR: Correlation between elution volume, V(e), and molecular weight was investigated for gel filtration of proteins of molecular weights ranging from 3500 (glucagon) to 820000 (alpha-crystallin) on Sephadex G-200 columns at pH7.5.
