TLDR
In this article, the authors investigated the kinetic effect of specific adsorption interactions on the chemical reduction of uranyl (UVIO22+) by ferrous iron, and derived a rate law for surface-catalyzed U(VI) reduction by Fe(II), d[U(VI)] dt =−k[≡ Fe III OFe II OH 0 ][U( VI)] ads where the bimolecular rate constant k has a value of 399 ± 25 M−1 min−1 at 25°C.

Uranium reduction and resistance to reoxidation under iron-reducing and sulfate-reducing conditions

TL;DR: The results indicate that the Clostridium-dominated iron-reducing communities created conditions that were more favorable for uranium stability with respect to reoxidation despite the fact that fewer electron equivalents were added to these systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Low-Temperature Oxygen Trap for Maintaining Strict Anoxic Conditions

TL;DR: In this article, a low-temperature O2 trap was designed in order to achieve strict anoxic conditions, motivated by observation of slow oxidation of Fe(II) in an anaerobic chamber, leading to an estimated 3.8×10-7atm O2.
Journal ArticleDOI

Uranium incorporation into aluminum-substituted ferrihydrite during iron(II)-induced transformation

TL;DR: The process of U incorporation into Al-goethite may be a potential long-term sink of U in subsurface environments where Al-substituted iron oxides are common, albeit at lower levels of incorporation with increasing Al content.
Journal ArticleDOI

Towards a common thermodynamic database for speciation models

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a methodological approach to achieve a common, operational database including the reactions and constants of these phases, provided they are coherent with the general thermodynamic laws.
Journal ArticleDOI

Production of hydroxyl radicals from oxygenation of simulated AMD due to CaCO3-induced pH increase.

TL;DR: Findings from this study suggest that the oxidizing impact of OH on contaminants transformation as well as organic carbon mineralization should be concerned for the oxygenation of AMD in karst areas.

Uranium solution-mineral equilibria at low temperatures with applications to sedimentary ore deposits

TL;DR: The Gibbs free energies, enthalpies and entropies of 42 dissolved uranium species and 30 uranium-bearing solid phases have been critically evaluated from the literature and estimated when necessary for 25°C.
