Synthesis and structure of a trinuclear chromium(III)-nicotinic acid complex

TLDR
The reaction of nicotinic acid (nic), chromic perchlorate hexahydrate, and sodium perchlorates in aqueous solution affords a Cr(III)-vitamin complex whose composition has been established to be Na[Cr3O(nicH)6(H 2O)3][ClO4]8·nicH·6H2O, based on analytical data and single-crystal X-ray analysis.

Elucidating a biological role for chromium at a molecular level.

TL;DR: Recent research has revealed that the chromium-binding oligopeptide chromodulin may play a unique role in the autoamplification of insulin signaling.

The bioinorganic chemistry of chromium(III)

TL;DR: The role of chromium(III) has been poorly understood and only recently has a somewhat clear picture of the role of this element been refined as mentioned in this paper, although chromium deficiency is difficult to achieve.

Quest for the Molecular Mechanism of Chromium Action and Its Relationship to Diabetes

TL;DR: The oligopeptide low-molecular-weight chromium-binding substance (LMWCr) may function as part of a novel insulin-signaling autoamplification mechanism that sheds some light on the potential ofchromium-containing compounds as nutritional supplements or in the treatment of adult-onset diabetes and other conditions.

Nutritional role of chromium

TL;DR: The biological function of chromium is closely associated with that of insulin and most chromium-stimulated reactions are also insulin dependent, so proper chromium nutrition leads to a decreased requirement for insulin and also an improved blood lipid profile.
