An atmospheric stimulus for cyanobacterial-bioinduced calcification ca. 350 million years ago?

TL;DR: Cyanobacterial calcification is promoted by CO2-concentrating mechanisms developed in response to photosynthetic carbon limitation, and the induction of cyanobacterial CCMs, triggered by Late Devonian change to a relatively low CO2 and high O2 atmosphere, has probably persisted to the present day, but well-developed calcification in marine cyanobacteria has been restricted to intervals of elevated carbonate saturation state.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metal-binding motifs of alkyl and aryl phosphinates; versatile mono and polynucleating ligands

TL;DR: In this paper, an analysis of 552 structures of metal complexes of alkyl and arylphosphinates in the Cambridge Crystallographic Database shows that the phosphinate ligating group is remarkably versatile and is able to adopt ten different binding motifs in both mono-and polynuclear complexes in which an individual phosphinate group can bind to up to five metal atoms.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new Mn25 single-molecule magnet with an S = 61/2 ground state arising from ligand-induced ‘spin-tweaking’ in a high-spin molecule

TL;DR: In this article, the successful ligand (hmp−)-induced structural distortion of the preformed Mn25 cluster (1) with an S −51/2 ground-state was shown to increase remarkably (∼20%) to S −61/2.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanosynthesis of zinc ferrite in hardened steel vials: Influence of ZnO on the appearance of Fe(II)

TL;DR: In this article, a powder mixture of hematite (α-Fe2O3) and zincite (ZnO) was synthesized by high-energy ball milling.
Book ChapterDOI

All-Transition Metal Aromaticity and Antiaromaticity

TL;DR: In this article, the counting rules for σ −, π-, δ-, and ϕ-aromaticity/antiaromaticity for both singlet/triplet coupled model triatomic and tetratomic systems are derived.

Magnetic bistability in a metal-ion cluster

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the magnetization of the Mn12 cluster is highly anisotropic and the magnetisation relaxation time becomes very long below a temperature of 4 K, giving rise to pronounced hysteresis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantum computing in molecular magnets

TL;DR: In this article, an implementation of Grover's algorithm that uses molecular magnets was proposed, which can be used to build dense and efficient memory devices based on the Grover algorithm, in which one single crystal can serve as a storage unit of a dynamic random access memory device.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lanthanide Double-Decker Complexes Functioning as Magnets at the Single-Molecular Level

TL;DR: Double-decker phthalocyanine complexes with Tb3+ or Dy3+ showed slow magnetization relaxation as a single-molecular property and a significant temperature rise results from a mechanism in the relaxation process different from that in the transition-metal-cluster SMMs.
Journal ArticleDOI

High-spin molecules: [Mn12O12(O2CR)16(H2O)4]

TL;DR: In this paper, the electrochemical and magnetochemical properties of [Mn 12 O 12 (O 2 CPh) 16 (H 2 O) 4 ] (3), its solvate 3.
