TLDR
The interactions of Tb3+ and sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) were investigated by inhibition of Ca2+-activated ATPase activity and enhancement of T b3+ fluorescence, suggesting that Tb 3+ inhibits the ATP enzyme activity by binding to the high affinity Ca2-activated binding sites.

Crystallization of the Ca2+-ATPase of sarcoplasmic reticulum by calcium and lanthanide ions.

TL;DR: Two-dimensional crystalline arrays of Ca2-ATPase molecules develop in sarcoplasmic reticulum vesicles exposed to Ca2+ or lanthanide ions, and their crystal form is clearly different from the earlier described E2 crystals induced by Na3VO4 in the presence of ethylene glycol bis(beta aminoethyl ether)-N,N, N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid.

Tracking Petroleum Refinery Emission Events Using Lanthanum and Lanthanides as Elemental Markers for PM2.5

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors quantitatively tracked the impacts of emissions from fluidized-bed catalytic cracking (FCC) units across the Houston region, showing a significant increase in contributions of FCC emissions to PM2.5 compared with background levels associated with routine operation.

Contributions of chemical derivatization and spectroscopic studies to the characterization of the Ca2+ transport ATPase of sarcoplasmic reticulum.

TL;DR: Probes of catalytic and Ca = + binding domains and crosslinking sludics, TNP-nuclcotides, and Pyridoxal phosohate probes are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Distances between the functional sites of the (Ca2+ + Mg2+)-ATPase of sarcoplasmic reticulum.

TL;DR: Considerations of the molecular dimensions of the ATPase polypeptide indicate that while the two Ca2+ sites are close to each other, the Ca2- sites and the nucleotide site are quite remote in the three-dimensional structure of the enzyme.
Journal ArticleDOI

Calcium and lanthanide binding in the sarcoplasmic reticulum ATPase.

TL;DR: It is apparent that cation bound in this midway location controls exchange of calcium bound in the transmembrane region, and the possibility that the midway location may provide a domain for binding of a second calcium is discussed.

A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.

The Attractions of Proteins for Small Molecules and Ions

TL;DR: The number and variety of known compounrjs between proteins and small molecules are increasing rapidly and make a fascinating story as discussed by the authors, and there are many compounds of serum albumin, which was used during the war by many chemists, most of whom found at least one 6ew compound.

Determination of serum proteins by means of the biuret reaction.

TL;DR: An investigation of the biochemical changes following experimental liver injury felt the need of a simple, rapid, and accurate method for determining the protein fractions in small amounts of serum and began with Kingsley’s biuret procedure.
