Evaluation of variability among different precipitation products in the Northern Great Plains

TL;DR: In this paper, daily total precipitation data derived from CaPA, ERA-Interim, ERA5, JRA-55, MERRA-2 and NLDAS-2 are evaluated over the Assiniboine River Basin (ARB), which represents many of the hydro-climatological complexities associated with the Northern Great Plains.
Journal ArticleDOI

High-resolution regional climate modeling and projection over western Canada using a weather research forecasting model with a pseudo-global warming approach

TL;DR: This article used the Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model at a convection-permitting 4'km resolution to dynamically downscale the mean projection of a 19-member CMIP5 ensemble by the end of the 21st century.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sub-kilometer Precipitation Datasets for Snowpack and Glacier Modeling in Alpine Terrain

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assess the impact of three sub-kilometer precipitation datasets on distributed simulations of snowpack and glacier mass balance with the detailed snowpack model Crocus for winter 2011-2012.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inter-comparison of lumped hydrological models in data-scarce watersheds using different precipitation forcing data sets: Case study of Northern Ontario, Canada

TL;DR: In this article, seven lumped conceptual models were thoroughly compared in order to determine the best performing model for reproducing different components of the hydrograph, including low and high flows in data-poor catchments.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessing the factors governing the ability to predict late-spring flooding in cold-region mountain basins

TL;DR: In this article, three sources of uncertainty, other than the hydrological model processes and parameters, were considered: (i)resolution of the atmospheric forcings, (ii) the snow and soil moisture initial conditions (ICs), and (iii) the representation of the soil texture.

Atmospheric Data Analysis

Roger Daley
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a method of successive corrections for Normal Mode Initialization (NME) in univariate, multivariate and univariate Statistical Interpolation (SI) problems.
Journal ArticleDOI

An Overview of the Second Generation Adjusted Daily Precipitation Dataset for Trend Analysis in Canada

TL;DR: In this paper, a second generation adjusted precipitation daily dataset has been prepared for trend analysis in Canada and daily rainfall and snowfall amounts have been adjusted for 464 stations for known measurement issues such as wind undercatch, evaporation and wetting losses for each type of rain-gauge, snow water equivalent from ruler measurements, trace observations and accumulated amounts from several days.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Global Analysis of Snow Depth for Numerical Weather Prediction

TL;DR: The operational analysis of snow depth at the Canadian Meteorological Centre is described in this article, which makes use of forecasts of precipitation and analyses of screen-level temperature to estimate snowfall and snowmelt for a global domain, and assumes persistence of the mass of the snowpack between melting and/or snowfall events.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Canadian precipitation analysis (CaPA) project: Description and preliminary results

TL;DR: In this article, a Canadian Precipitation Analysis (CaPA) project for producing 6 h rainfall accumulations at a resolution of 15 km over North America in real-time is described.
