Detection of the effects of ingested caffeine on fertility of cocks by homospermic and heterospermic insemination.

TL;DR: The results indicate that the effect of low levels of a toxin could be detected by reduced numbers of eggs hatched after heterospermic insemination with semen of normal appearance.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effects of methylxanthines on the mobility of stored turkey sperm

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that sperm mobility and fertilizing capacity of pooled turkey semen declines with storage, and that addition of caffeine or pentoxifylline either during or after storage does not affect sperm mobility.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comb Type and Reproduction in the Male Fowl Semen Characteristics and Testes Structure

TL;DR: The presence of the rose (R) comb allele in poultry population has been shown to have a deleterious effect on reproductive performance, but Crawford and Smyth have shown this effect to be due to homozygosity of rose (RRpp) comb males with no marked effect on the fertility of RRpp females, or heterozygous rose comb birds of either sex.

Some Enzyme Activities of Chicken Spermatozoa

R. B. Buckland
- 01 Nov 1970 -
TL;DR: To determine the level of activity and relative importance of a number of enzymes in chicken spermatozoa, three separate samples, each from 6–7 males, of pooled semen were analyzed for each enzyme.

A Method of Obtaining Spermatozoa from the Domestic Fowl

W. H. Burrows, +1 more
- 01 Jul 1935 -
TL;DR: The method presented in this paper consists of a manual elicitation of an ejaculatory response which is undoubtedly reflex in nature and can be obtained in a short period of time.

Selective Fertilization in Fowls

L. C. Dunn
- 01 Jun 1927 -
TL;DR: An attempt was made to find out whether there was any selective preference in the union of sperm and egg cells in poultry, and it was found that self-fertilization was more effective or easier to make than cross fertilization.

The Influence of Certain Feeds Upon the Production of Spermatozoa by the Domestic Chicken

TL;DR: Experimental studies pertaining to the factors which may influence fertility in poultry have been limited to hatchability thus far, and for obvious reasons such studies have been confined to the female.
Journal ArticleDOI

A study of the spermatozoon of the fowl, with particular reference to osmiophilic bodies in the sperm head

TL;DR: The purpose of this study was to learn something of the nature of the bead‐like bodies which occur in the head of the sperm of the fowl since it was found in a previous study that they are apparently affected in a characteristic manner by vitamin E deficiency.
