Are the optimum levels of the catalase and vitamin E in rooster semen extender after freezing-thawing influenced by sperm concentration?
Morteza Moghbeli,Hamid Kohram,Hamid Kohram,Ahmad Zare-Shahaneh,Mahdi Zhandi,Mohsen Sharafi,Mohammad Mehdi Nabi,Vahid Zahedi,Hossein Sharideh +8 more
TL;DR: Investigating the effects of vitamin E (VitE) and catalase (CAT) at different sperm concentrations on the rooster post-thawed sperm quality demonstrated that VitE (5 μg/mL) and CAT (100 IU/ mL) independently at sperm concentration, 400 million sperm/mL could beneficial effect for preservation of rooster semen during cryopreservation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Semen production by the emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae). 1. Methods for collection of semen
TL;DR: Two methods for collecting semen from male emus using an artificial cloaca (AC) have been developed and can be used for routine collection of semen, as they take advantage of natural stimulation and the voluntary ejaculation reflex to which the birds adapted readily.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Holding Temperature and Storage Time on Respiratory Rate, Motility, and Fertility of Chicken and Turkey Semen
TL;DR: A series of experiments was conducted to measure the respiratory activity, motility, and fertility of chicken and turkey sperm in undiluted and diluted semen held at either 41, 25, 15, or 5 C for 3 or 6 hr.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Lead Exposure on Sperm Quality and Reproductive Success in an Avian Model
Núria Vallverdú-Coll,François Mougeot,Manuel E. Ortiz-Santaliestra,Cristina Castaño,Julián Santiago-Moreno,Rafael Mateo +5 more
TL;DR: Several sperm parameters showed positive relationships with coloration and antioxidant levels, suggesting that males displaying redder ornaments may be more capable of protecting sperm from oxidative stress in the event of sublethal Pb exposure.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effects of different levels of vitamin E and vitamin C in modified Beltsville extender on rooster post-thawed sperm quality.
Mahmood Reza Amini,Hamid Kohram,Ahmad Zare Shahaneh,Mahdi Zhandi,Hossein Sharideh,Mohammad Mehdi Nabi +5 more
TL;DR: The results of the present study demonstrate that C200 and E5 can improve the function of post-thawed rooster spermatozoa.

A Method of Obtaining Spermatozoa from the Domestic Fowl
W. H. Burrows,J. P. Quinn +1 more
TL;DR: The method presented in this paper consists of a manual elicitation of an ejaculatory response which is undoubtedly reflex in nature and can be obtained in a short period of time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Selective Fertilization in Fowls
TL;DR: An attempt was made to find out whether there was any selective preference in the union of sperm and egg cells in poultry, and it was found that self-fertilization was more effective or easier to make than cross fertilization.

The Influence of Certain Feeds Upon the Production of Spermatozoa by the Domestic Chicken
TL;DR: Experimental studies pertaining to the factors which may influence fertility in poultry have been limited to hatchability thus far, and for obvious reasons such studies have been confined to the female.

A study of the spermatozoon of the fowl, with particular reference to osmiophilic bodies in the sperm head
F. B. Adamstone,L. E. Card +1 more
TL;DR: The purpose of this study was to learn something of the nature of the bead‐like bodies which occur in the head of the sperm of the fowl since it was found in a previous study that they are apparently affected in a characteristic manner by vitamin E deficiency.
