TLDR
A number of methods for obtaining semen from the fowl have been described, including mating a cock to a hen and immediately securing the fluid from the cloaca of the hen.About:

Effect of Protein, Probiotics and Vitamins Supplementation on Semen Quality and Immunohistochemistry of Pituitary Gland in Molted Male Layer Breeders
Humaira Muzaffar,Rahman Zu,Tanweer Khaliq,Junaid Ali Khan,Zia Ur-Rahman,Zia-ur-Rahman,Aisha Mahmood,Arslan Iftikhar,Khan Ja,Fazal Mahmood,Sajjad Ur Rahman,Rahman Su +11 more
TL;DR: The results indicated that semen volume and sperm motility increased, while %age of dead sperm decreased, significantly in vitamin C and E treated groups, which ultimately caused an increase in semen quality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of oral Lactobacillus acidophilus gavage on rooster seminal and cloacal Lactobacilli concentrations
TL;DR: The addition of L. acidophilus to the male breeder diet over extended periods may increase concentrations of Lactobacilli in the cloaca even higher than the concentrations observed in this study.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of Artificial Insemination Techniques on Fertility in Laying Hens
B. S. Reinhart,P. S. Fiser +1 more
TL;DR: The effects of depth of intravaginal insemination of two subsequent semen ejaculates from Rhode Island Red (RIR) and Light Sussex cockerels on fertility and embryonic mortality of eggs from RIR hens were investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Does Evaluation of One or Two Ejaculates of Rooster Semen Provide a Valid Basis for Culling Inferior Males
S. P. S. Gill,R. P. Amann +1 more
TL;DR: Evaluation of three successive ejaculates is recommended to enable a flock supervisor to usually, with reasonable reliability, make correct decisions to cull or not cull a rooster.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantifying sperm egg interaction to assess the breeding efficiency through artificial insemination in guinea fowls
TL;DR: Guinea fowl hens were inseminated weekly once with two doses of spermatozoa in two different diluents, Beltsville poultry semen extender (BPSE), and Instruments for Veterinary Medicine (IMV), each with and without pre-insemination vaginal douching, and Artificial insemination significantly improved the per cent fertility and hatchability compared to natural mating.

A Method of Obtaining Spermatozoa from the Domestic Fowl
W. H. Burrows,J. P. Quinn +1 more
TL;DR: The method presented in this paper consists of a manual elicitation of an ejaculatory response which is undoubtedly reflex in nature and can be obtained in a short period of time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Selective Fertilization in Fowls
TL;DR: An attempt was made to find out whether there was any selective preference in the union of sperm and egg cells in poultry, and it was found that self-fertilization was more effective or easier to make than cross fertilization.

The Influence of Certain Feeds Upon the Production of Spermatozoa by the Domestic Chicken
TL;DR: Experimental studies pertaining to the factors which may influence fertility in poultry have been limited to hatchability thus far, and for obvious reasons such studies have been confined to the female.

A study of the spermatozoon of the fowl, with particular reference to osmiophilic bodies in the sperm head
F. B. Adamstone,L. E. Card +1 more
TL;DR: The purpose of this study was to learn something of the nature of the bead‐like bodies which occur in the head of the sperm of the fowl since it was found in a previous study that they are apparently affected in a characteristic manner by vitamin E deficiency.
