Ejaculate collection efficiency and post-thaw semen quality in wild-caught Griffon vultures from the Sardinian population

TL;DR: It is indicated that semen cryopreservation can be considered as a useful tool in the conservation of Griffon vulture genetic resources, but further studies are needed to optimize this technique.

Effect of adding green tea and its aqueous extract as natural antioxidants to laying hen diet on productive, reproductive performance and egg quality during storage and its content of cholesterol.

TL;DR: Abdo et al. as discussed by the authors investigated the effect of adding green tea and its aqueous extract as natural antioxidants to local laying hen diets on productive, reproductive performance and egg quality during storage and its content of cholesterol.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of frequency of semen collection on quantitative and qualitative characteristics of semen in turkey breeder males

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of various frequencies of semen collection on several quantitative and qualitative semen characteristics were investigated in adult turkey breeder males (30 to 40 wk of age), and the results demonstrated that a favorable effect of high semen collection frequencies on sperm viability and a marked decline in sperm viability during the first 2 d following a 2-d resting period in males collected five times a week.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ultrastructure of the Guinea Fowl (Numidia meleagris) Spermatozoon

TL;DR: The ultrastructure of the guinea spermatozoon was similar to that of the chicken and turkey with two exceptions: 1) the mitochondria had cristae aligned parallel and oblique with respect to the outer limiting membrane and 2) there was no proximal centriole.

Elevated Seminal Plasma Protein: A Characteristic of Yellow Turkey Semen

TL;DR: The high correlation between intensity of the yellow color in YS seminal plasma and protein concentration indicates that semen quality of turkey breeders could be improved by selection on the basis of low seminal plasma protein concentration.

A Method of Obtaining Spermatozoa from the Domestic Fowl

W. H. Burrows, +1 more
- 01 Jul 1935 -
TL;DR: The method presented in this paper consists of a manual elicitation of an ejaculatory response which is undoubtedly reflex in nature and can be obtained in a short period of time.

Selective Fertilization in Fowls

L. C. Dunn
- 01 Jun 1927 -
TL;DR: An attempt was made to find out whether there was any selective preference in the union of sperm and egg cells in poultry, and it was found that self-fertilization was more effective or easier to make than cross fertilization.

The Influence of Certain Feeds Upon the Production of Spermatozoa by the Domestic Chicken

TL;DR: Experimental studies pertaining to the factors which may influence fertility in poultry have been limited to hatchability thus far, and for obvious reasons such studies have been confined to the female.
Journal ArticleDOI

A study of the spermatozoon of the fowl, with particular reference to osmiophilic bodies in the sperm head

TL;DR: The purpose of this study was to learn something of the nature of the bead‐like bodies which occur in the head of the sperm of the fowl since it was found in a previous study that they are apparently affected in a characteristic manner by vitamin E deficiency.
