TLDR
A number of methods for obtaining semen from the fowl have been described, including mating a cock to a hen and immediately securing the fluid from the cloaca of the hen.About:

sperm-egg penetration in laying breeder flocks ; a technique for the prediction of fertility
TL;DR: The highest fertility and hatchability and lowest embryonic mortality were observed in eggs laid by hens inseminated with spermatozoa from WL and NH males in comparison with hens on the other hand had significantly more sperm-egg penetration (SP) holes than WL hens from other breeds of males.

Sucrose increases the quality and fertilizing ability of cryopreserved chicken sperms in contrast to raffinose.
Pachara Thananurak,Napapach Chuaychu-noo,Aurore Thélie,Yupin Phasuk,Thevin Vongpralub,Elisabeth Blesbois +5 more
TL;DR: The high success of a simple chicken sperm cryopreservation method with an external cryoprotectant easily available and cheap, the sucrose, used at an osmotically inactive low concentration is shown.

Semen and Carcass Evaluation of Broiler Breeder Males Fed Low Protein Diets
TL;DR: Reducing dietary protein to 9% decreased male body weight slightly, increased carcass fat, and had no adverse effects on semen production through 50 wk of age.

The effect of visible radiation on the functional life-span of mammalian and avian spermatozoa.
TL;DR: Using visible light as a stressor, spermatozoa stored in vitro as the biological test sytem, it has been possible to obtain quantitative data which establish a positive correlation between sensitivity to stress (visible radiation) and cell age.

A Method of Obtaining Spermatozoa from the Domestic Fowl
W. H. Burrows,J. P. Quinn +1 more
TL;DR: The method presented in this paper consists of a manual elicitation of an ejaculatory response which is undoubtedly reflex in nature and can be obtained in a short period of time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Selective Fertilization in Fowls
TL;DR: An attempt was made to find out whether there was any selective preference in the union of sperm and egg cells in poultry, and it was found that self-fertilization was more effective or easier to make than cross fertilization.

The Influence of Certain Feeds Upon the Production of Spermatozoa by the Domestic Chicken
TL;DR: Experimental studies pertaining to the factors which may influence fertility in poultry have been limited to hatchability thus far, and for obvious reasons such studies have been confined to the female.

A study of the spermatozoon of the fowl, with particular reference to osmiophilic bodies in the sperm head
F. B. Adamstone,L. E. Card +1 more
TL;DR: The purpose of this study was to learn something of the nature of the bead‐like bodies which occur in the head of the sperm of the fowl since it was found in a previous study that they are apparently affected in a characteristic manner by vitamin E deficiency.
