TLDR
In this paper, the relationship between LAM processing parameters and microstructure in as-deposited Ti-6Al-4V was investigated, and the results presented in this paper provide a first look at the relationships between the two parameters.Abstract:
Laser additive manufacturing (LAM) is a manufacturing technique with cost-reduction potential for titanium aerospace components. The mechanical properties of LAM Ti-6Al-4V have been investigated extensively, but little work on microstructure evolution has been performed to date. The results presented here provide a first look at the relationships between LAM processing parameters and microstructure in as-deposited Ti-6Al-4V.read more

Understanding the microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti-6Al-4V and Inconel 718 alloys manufactured by Laser Engineered Net Shaping
TL;DR: In this article, two alloys fabricated by LENS, Ti-6Al-4V and Inconel 718, were examined and compared to their wrought counterparts, and the differences between low and high laser power fabrications, as well as the effects of various post-LENS heat treatments were systematically investigated and discussed.

Peter C. Collins,Christina V. Haden,Iman Ghamarian,Brian J. Hayes,Thomas K. Ales,G. Penso,V. Dixit,G. Harlow +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the development of a process model, the assessment of key microstructural features to be incorporated into a microstructure simulation model, a novel approach to extract a constitutive equation to predict tensile properties in Ti-6Al-4V (Ti-64), and a probabilistic approach to measure the fidelity of the property model against real data.

Characterization and analysis of surface notches on Ti-alloy plates fabricated by additive manufacturing techniques
TL;DR: In this article, a surface notch analysis was performed to assess the fatigue strength due to the surface notches, and the authors concluded that for better fatigue performance, the surface notch on EBM and LBM materials need to be removed by machining and the surface roughness be improved to a surface finish.
