A theory is presented for vacuum tunneling between a real solid surface and a model probe with a locally spherical tip, applicable to the recently developed "scanning tunneling microscope." Calculations for 2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}1 and 3\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}1 reconstructions of Au(110) are in excellent agreement with recent experimental results, if an effective radius of curvature of 9 \AA{} is assumed for the tip.read more

Conductance Bistability in a Single Porphyrin Molecule in a STM Junction: A Many-Body Simulation Study
TL;DR: Wu et al. as discussed by the authors simulated the conductance spectrum of a single magnesium porphine molecule by calculating many-electron states at the Hartree-Fock and configuration interaction single level.

Quantitative characterization of carrier injection across metal–organic interfaces using Bardeen theory
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the contact between a metal and an organic/polymeric (o/p) material and introduced a relation for carrier injection using Bardeen theory, where a series of narrow barriers were considered in the semiconductor side to account for the localized nature of the carriers in the o/p material.

Metallic and molecular nanostructures on well-defined surfaces
TL;DR: In this paper, the growth of nanostructures on well-defined metal substrates is studied. And the main experimental tool to analyse the realized structures is the scanning tunnelling microscope (STM).
