Three-phase interactions in shear and electrical fields
S Torza,S. G. Mason +1 more
TLDR
In this article, the authors show that when two immiscible liquid drops, designated as phase-1 and -3, suspended in a third immiscibility liquid, phase-2, are brought into contact, the resulting equilibrium configuration is readily predicted from the interfacial tensions σij and spreading coefficients Si = σjk − (σij + σik).About:

Flow-induced transition of compound droplet to composite microfiber in a channel with sudden contraction
S. A. Vagner,Stanislav Patlazhan +1 more
TL;DR: In this article , the deformation behavior and hydrodynamic stability of a single core compound droplet during flow in a channel with sudden contraction were studied by numerical modeling, and it was found that the effective elongation of the core occurs either with a significant increase in the shell viscosity relative to the ambient fluid or with a decrease in the core viscosities with respect to the shell.

Instability Modes and Dimensional Analysis of Micro/Nano Electro-Encapsulation Process
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of different physical and operational properties of inner and outer liquid is examined and a non-dimensional approach is used to explain the experimental results as a function of different dimensionless number viz. Electrical Bond no (Boe), Masuda no (Md), and Capillary number (Ca).

Wake structure of compound drops oscillating in a viscous fluid
TL;DR: In this paper , an experimental investigation of the structure of the wake and oscillation dynamics of gas-liquid compound drops rising at high Reynolds numbers was conducted. But the results were limited to three combinations of fluids, and they were tested for a wide range of the diameter ratio, i.e., the equivalent diameter of the gas bubble divided by the liquid layer.

Particle motions in sheared suspensions XII. Deformation and burst of fluid drops in shear and hyperbolic flow
F.D Rumscheidt,S. G. Mason +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the deformation, orientation, and burst of fluid drops suspended in a liquid subjected to both hyperbolic and shear flow have been measured for a large number of fluid pairs covering a wide range of viscosity ratio p. At low deformation excellent agreement, with theoretical equations due to Taylor and Cerf was found.

Semipermeable aqueous microcapsules. I. Preparation and properties.
TL;DR: Methods have been developed for depositing thin stable semipermeable polymer membranes around aqueous microdroplets (mean diameter down to 5 μ or less) by either interfacial polymerization or interfacial coacervation.

Oil Lenses on Water and the Nature of Monomolecular Expanded Films
TL;DR: In this article, the condition for the formation of such stable lenses is that the spreading coefficient FS = γ1 − γ2 γ12 shall be negative and the magnitude of the linear tension at the lens boundary is also calculated.

Particle motions in sheared suspensions
W Bartok,S. G. Mason +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the rotations executed by rigid rods, fused doublets of equal-sized spheres, and the transitory doublets formed by collision of equal sized spheres suspended in a liquid subjected to laminar shear, have been studied by making observations along the planes of shear.
