Sonodynamic therapy of cancer using a novel TiO2-based nanoparticles

TL;DR: The results of the MTT test indicate that TiO2 and the porphyrin-containing samples are non-toxic but in combination with ultrasound radiation are more effective in killing breast cancer cells.

Characterization of Focused Ultrasound induced Acoustic Streaming

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) to determine velocity fields in an infinite medium of water subjected to a focused ultrasonic field.
Journal Article

Acoustic droplet vaporization is initiated by superharmonic focusing

TL;DR: It is shown that acoustic droplet vaporization is initiated by a combination of two phenomena: highly nonlinear distortion of the acoustic wave before it hits the droplet and focusing of the distorted wave by thedroplet itself, thereby minimizing the negative bioeffects associated with the use of high-intensity ultrasound.

Transdermal drug delivery

TL;DR: Third-generation delivery systems target their effects to skin's barrier layer of stratum corneum using microneedles, thermal ablation, microdermabrasion, electroporation and cavitational ultrasound for delivery of macromolecules and vaccines.
Journal ArticleDOI

Current status and future potential of transdermal drug delivery

TL;DR: The already significant impact this field has made on the administration of various pharmaceuticals is discussed; limitations of the current technology are explored; methods under exploration for overcoming these limitations and the challenges ahead are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

High-intensity focused ultrasound in the treatment of solid tumours.

TL;DR: For decades high-intensity focused ultrasound has promised to deliver the ultimate objective — truly non-invasive tumour ablation, but only now, with recent improvements in imaging, has this objective finally emerged as a real clinical possibility.
Journal ArticleDOI

A review of piezoelectric polymers as functional materials for electromechanical transducers

TL;DR: An overview of piezoelectric polymers based on their operating principle is given in this paper, which includes three main categories: bulk polymers, piezocomposites and voided charged polymers.
Journal ArticleDOI

High intensity focused ultrasound: physical principles and devices.

TL;DR: The principle of operation of high intensity focused ultrasound, a treatment modality enabling non-invasive tissue heating and ablation for numerous applications, and numerous extra-corporeal, transrectal and interstitial devices have been described here to optimise application-specific treatment delivery.
