TLDR
The kinetics of ATP reagents not affected by product inhibition or other forms of inactivation of luciferase during the measurement time has been clarified and it is concluded that one should select the ideal ATP reagent carefully for each application.

Disruption of Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes and Lactobacillus sakei cellular membranes by plant oil aromatics

TL;DR: Results for eugenol and carvacrol are consistent with non-specific permeabilization of the cytoplasmic membrane, and evidence for increased membrane permeability by cinnamaldehyde is less conclusive.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanisms of bactericidal action of cinnamaldehyde against Listeria monocytogenes and of eugenol against L. monocytogenes and Lactobacillus sakei.

TL;DR: Effects on energy generation clearly play a major role in the activity of eugenol and cinnamaldehyde at bactericidal concentrations, and the possible mechanisms of inhibition of energy generation are inhibition of glucose uptake or utilization of glucose and effects on membrane permeability.

Detection of immunogenic cell death and its relevance for cancer therapy

TL;DR: Qualitative approaches for measuring ICD markers in vitro and ex vivo for the discovery of next-generation antineoplastic agents, the development of personalized anticancer regimens, and the identification of optimal therapeutic combinations for the clinical management of cancer are outlined.

Mitochondrial hyperpolarization and ATP depletion in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

TL;DR: T cell activation and apoptosis are mediated by deltapsim elevation and increased ROI production and Mitochondrial hyperpolarization and the resultant ATP depletion sensitize T cells for necrosis, which may significantly contribute to inflammation in patients with SLE.

Polyphosphate Is a Primordial Chaperone

TL;DR: It is shown that polyP stabilizes proteins in vivo, diminishes the need for other chaperone systems to survive proteotoxic stress conditions, and protects a wide variety of proteins against stress-induced unfolding and aggregation.

Real-Time DNA Sequencing Using Detection of Pyrophosphate Release

TL;DR: An approach for real-time DNA sequencing without the need for electrophoresis has been developed that relies on the detection of DNA polymerase activity by an enzymatic luminometric inorganic pyrophosphate (PPi) detection assay (ELIDA) and the possibility for parallel processing of many samples in an automated manner is discussed.

Bioluminescence and chemiluminescence

TL;DR: Evidence is developing for interesting interand intra-phyletic similarities, especially in the structure of luciferins and the chemiluminescent reaction mechanisms.

Spectral emission and quantum yield of firefly bioluminescence

TL;DR: The emission spectrum of in vitro firefly bioluminescence has been found to be identical with the in vivo biolUMinescence and an energy stabilization role is postulated for the luciferase molecule in view of the high quantum yields measured.

Comparison of Methods for Extraction of Bacterial Adenine Nucleotides Determined by Firefly Assay

TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared 10 extraction methods with respect to yield of adenine nucleotides, interference with the enzymic assay, reproducibility of the method, and stability of the extracts.

Continuous monitoring of ATP-converting reactions by purified firefly luciferase

TL;DR: The continuous monitoring of ATP concentration by firefly luciferase was used for kinetic determination of enzymes and metabolites and for endpoint analysis of metabolites and was found to be extremely sensitive and convenlent for routine applications.
