Short-Term Forecasting of Price-Responsive Loads Using Inverse Optimization

TL;DR: In this article, the problem of forecasting the aggregate demand of a pool of price-responsive consumers of electricity is considered, and the response of the aggregate load to price is modeled by an optimization problem that is characterized by a set of marginal utility curves and minimum and maximum power consumption limits.

Energy management in a domestic microgrid by means of model predictive controllers

TL;DR: In this article, a model predictive control (MPC) based control logic for domestic micro-grid applications was implemented by assuming real weather forecast as input data, and results showed encouraging performances compared to standard control logics, primarily in terms of primary energy savings and downsizing potential of the power-delivering sub-systems using programmable energy sources.

Semi-automated modular modeling of buildings for model predictive control

TL;DR: The proposed modular approach flexibly supports stepwise model refinements and integration of models for the building's technical subsystems and was successfully applied to the modeling of a representative Swiss office building.

Energy Efficient Building HVAC Control Algorithm with Real-time Occupancy Prediction

TL;DR: In this article, an occupancy prediction model is proposed to provide an accurate forecast of building occupancy and a novel building HVAC control algorithm is then developed by embedding the occupancy model into the model predictive control framework.

Implementation of a Scenario-Based MPC for HVAC Systems: An Experimental Case Study

TL;DR: In this paper, a stochastic MPC strategy is proposed to dynamically learn the statistics of the building occupancy patterns and weather conditions, and the main advantage of this method is the absence of apriori assumptions on the distributions of the uncertain variables, and that it can be applied to any type of building.

Q1. What have the authors contributed in "Use of model predictive control and weather forecasts for energy efficient building climate control" ?

This paper presents an investigation of how Model Predictive Control ( MPC ) and weather predictions can increase the energy efficiency in Integrated Room Automation ( IRA ) while respecting occupant comfort. In this paper it is reported on the development and analysis of a Stochastic Model Predictive Control ( SMPC ) strategy for building climate control that takes into account hance-constrained control the uncertainty due to the use of weather predictions. As first step the potential of MPC was assessed by means of a large-scale factorial simulation study that considered different types of buildings and HVAC systems at four representative European sites. The findings suggest that SMPC outperforms current control practice.
