TLDR
In this paper, an analytical approach using higher order plate theories to determine wave reflections from and transmissions through a damaged region in a beam is presented. But the damaged region is either treated as two split beams or as an inhomogeneity.

Structure-borne sound

TL;DR: In this article, the authors consider bending waves, which are a special combination of compressional and shear waves, and for some special cases (quasi-) longitudinal waves and torsional waves also have to be considered.
