Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate whether a temporary structural change would induce a lasting increase in drivers' public transport use. An experiment targeting 43 drivers was carried out, in which a one-month free bus ticket was given to 23 drivers in an experimental group but not to 20 drivers in a control group. Attitudes toward, habits of, and frequency of using automobile and bus were measured immediately before, immediately after, and one month after the one-month long intervention. The results showed that attitudes toward bus were more positive and that the frequency of bus use increased, whereas the habits of using automobile decreased from before the intervention, even one month after the intervention period. Furthermore, the increase in habitual bus use had the largest effect on the increase in the frequency of bus use. The results suggest that a temporary structural change, such as offering auto drivers a temporary free bus ticket, may be an important travel demand management tool for converting automotive travel demand to public-transport travel demand.

Impact and assessment of "Free" Public Transport measures: lessons from the case study of Brussels

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examine and assess the effects of the introduction of a third-payer system on the mobility behavior from a multidisciplinary viewpoint, through a case study of free urban public transport for students at Dutch-speaking universities and colleges in Brussels.

Modelling induced mode switch behaviour in Bangladesh: A multinomial logistic regression approach

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined whether the construction of flyover infrastructure induces travel mode switch behavior of individuals and found that flyover users were three times more likely to switch their travel mode to private transport in order to save travel time compared to the non-flyover users who did not change their travel modes.

PROGRESS IN FIELD EXPERIMENTATION FOR ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE TOURISM – A knowledge map and research agenda

TL;DR: In this article , the authors present a review of intervention experiments in tourism and hospitality aimed at making tourist behaviour more sustainable, highlighting that past intervention studies were limited to only a small number of relevant target behaviours and intervention types.

The theory of planned behavior

TL;DR: Ajzen, 1985, 1987, this article reviewed the theory of planned behavior and some unresolved issues and concluded that the theory is well supported by empirical evidence and that intention to perform behaviors of different kinds can be predicted with high accuracy from attitudes toward the behavior, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control; and these intentions, together with perceptions of behavioral control, account for considerable variance in actual behavior.
