Recent changes in veterinary medicine have required quantitative epidemiological techniques for designing field surveys, identifying risk factors for multifactorial diseases, and assessing diagnostic tests. Several relevant techniques are brought together in the package of veterinary epidemiological computer software, WIN EPISCOPE 2.0, described in this paper. It is based on Microsoft Windows and includes modules for the design and analysis of field surveys, control campaigns and observational studies, and a simple mathematical model. It provides comprehensive 'Help' screens and should therefore be useful not only in field investigations but also for teaching veterinary epidemiology.read more

Genetic characterization of African swine fever virus isolates from soft ticks at the wildlife/domestic interface in Mozambique and identification of a novel genotype
TL;DR: This work confirms for the first time that the virus currently circulating in eastern Europe is likely to have a wildlife origin, and that the large diversity of ASFV maintained in wildlife areas can act as a permanent sources of different strains for the domestic pig value chain in Mozambique and beyond its boundaries.

TL;DR: In conclusion, abnormal calving and negative energy balance are associated with increased risk for metritis, especially puerperal meetritis, which correlates with reduced milk production and poor reproductive performance.

TL;DR: The results of this supranational comparative study showed that the importance of N. caninum infection varied greatly within in Europe and was significantly associated with herdtype (beef versus dairy), age, breed and region within countries.

Cow-level and herd-level risk factors for subclinical endometritis in lactating Holstein cows.
TL;DR: Prevalence estimates for subclinical endometritis (SCE), cow- and herd-level risk factors, and the reproductive consequences of SCE were obtained and primiparous cows that produced more milk had increased odds of having SCE, whereas multiparous cattle that producedMore milk had decreased odds ofHaving SCE.

Longitudinal Study of the Contamination of Air and of Soil Surfaces in the Vicinity of Pig Barns by Livestock-Associated Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus
Jochen Schulz,Anika Friese,Sylvia Klees,Bernd Alois Tenhagen,Alexandra Fetsch,Uwe Rösler,Jörg Hartung +6 more
TL;DR: The results show that there is regular airborne LA-MRSA transmission and deposition, which are strongly influenced by wind direction and season, of up to at least 300 m around positive pig barns.
