TL;DR: A rotary power transmitting shaft decoupling device has a driving componentxially aligned with a driven component and keyed by a plurality of force transmitting elements held in operable relation to the driving and driven components, respectively, by an axially shiftable slide element that is coaxial with the driving component and provided with a lead screw.
Abstract: A rotary power transmitting shaft decoupling device has a driving componentxially aligned with a driven component and keyed thereto by a plurality of force transmitting elements held in operable relation to the driving and driven components, respectively, by an axially shiftable slide element that is coaxial with the driving and driven components and is provided with a lead screw. Actuation to effect decoupling is effected by engaging the lead screw with a plunger so that rotation of the device results in axial shifting of the slide element and withdrawal of the force transmitting elements from operable relation to the driving and driven components.

Abstract: With ten successive octave tones, Shepard demonstrated that upward shifts in frequency might be heard as downward shifts in pitch. This decoupling of auditory pitch and frequency has important consequences for any representational theory of pitch. Experiments are reported that attempt to identify the crucial features of Shepard’s demonstration.

TL;DR: The negative resistance oscillator as discussed by the authors is based on a dielectric resonator associated with a negative resistance element, which works in the GHz region, and can be used for low pass filters.
Abstract: The negative resistance oscillator works in the GHz region. The oscillator is based on a dielectric resonator associated with a negative resistance element. The resonator, normally cylindrical, has one metallised end face mounted on an isolating substrate (2) such as alumina or silica. The substrate is laid on one inside surface of an 'L' cross section base (40) which carries on its remaining face a variable capacity diode (50) or varactor, e.g. a Schottky diode, a decoupling capacitance (7) to earth and a second decoupling capacitor (9). Both capacitors are in parallel and spaced by about a quarter wavelength of the oscillator frequency forming a low - pass filters. The positive supply is taken to earth and the negative to one side of the diode.

TL;DR: In this paper, a comparator and an isolating circuit is used to recover the continuous component from a failure at one of the peripherals and a fault at one does not affect the others.
Abstract: The receiver comprises a comparator and an isolating circuit and includes a circuit to recover the continuous component. The circuit allows a number of peripherals to be connected and a fault at one does not affect the others. The two conductors (+, -) of an AC bus (B) with its matching resistor (RA) are connected via capacitors (C1, C2) and decoupling resistos (R11, R1/2) to the inputs (+, -) of the comparator (C). The comparator inputs are connected to balanced polarising voltages (+V, -V) via potential dividers (R5 -R8). A diode (D) at the common point between capacitors and decoupling resistors provides a discharge path for the capacitors to allow recovery of the continuous component. Resistors (R9, R10) connected to be balanced voltage supply allow the diode to be prepolarised and allow the capacitors to have an initial constant charge.

Abstract: An acoustic dampening assembly of decoupling devices for blocking, absorbing, and deadening collision course vibrations. These decoupling devices are disposed: (a) where vibrations can be picked up by a component of the equipment from the surrounding air, (b) athwart each path of travel for vibrations through the component and particularly to and from another component, and (c) in parallel to complex resonating vibrations within associated components, for diminishing, absorbing, and blocking the transfer of such vibrations. These devices include elastomeric mounts which maintain rotating components in the rigid alignment required by design considerations, energy absorbing layers on flat surfaces, isolated sandwich cushions at points of load-bearing contact, compressing devices that produce radially-directed inward pressures, and a ballast that produces a total decoupling of the record from the turntable mechanism during play of the record.

TL;DR: In this article, the decoupling problem is formulated as an exact model-matching problem and solved by solving a linear system of equations, which results in reducing the problem to one of solving linear systems of equations.
Abstract: This paper presents a new method for synthesising decoupling controllers for linear time-invariant multivariable systems. The novel approach proposed is based on the idea of formulating, and subsequently solving, the decoupling problem as an exact model-matching problem. This, in effect, results in reducing the decoupling problem to one of solving a linear system of equations.

TL;DR: A new technique is described by means of which it is possible to decouple a system which is not olherwise decouplable by proportional feedback of the output vector by adding a dynamic controller in the forward path.
Abstract: The design of noninteracting multivariable control systems by slate feedback has received considerable attention recently, and an extensive theory is now available. One area, however, that requires further clarification concerns the case where the state vector is not accessible to measurement, and feedback of output is inadequate for the purpose of decoupling. In this paper a new technique is described by means of which it is possible to decouple a system which is not olherwise decouplable by proportional feedback of the output vector. The technique is based on the addition of a dynamic controller in the forward path, and is analogous to cascade compensation in single-loop systems. It is shown that a necessary and sufficient condition for the success of this method of decoupling control is that the Original system should satisfy the condition for state feedback decoupling.

TL;DR: In this paper, an open-loop decoupling compensator is proposed, which is compatible with the independent-joint-control design philosophy currently adopted in most industrial manipulator systems.
Abstract: The dynamic decoupling problem for a rigid body model of a remote manipulator system is studied. An open-loop decoupling compensator is proposed, which is compatible with the independent-joint-control design philosophy currently adopted in most industrial manipulator systems. Decoupling is achieved by implementing a precompensator at the input to the joint drive system. The feasibility of the decoupling scheme is demonstrated via simulation experiments on the model of a two-joint manipulator system with arms in planar motion.

Abstract: This paper proposes a method for designing a dynamic precompensator for a multi-variable linear system, so as to make the transfer-function matrix of the compensated system diagonal at a specified set of frequencies. The properties of the resulting compensator are investigated, together with the approach to exact diagonalization as the complexity of the structure is increased.

Abstract: High power, phase coherent pulses are generated by superconducting appara which includes a superconducting cavity resonator that is pumped by a low power microwave source while being isolated from a load. Switching of the cavity to an emitting mode is accomplished in 5 to 10 nanoseconds by firing a gas discharge tube that acts to couple the activity to the load while decoupling it from the pumping source.

TL;DR: The invariant structure and the structure which can be modified invariant by nonlinear state feedback are introduced as the state space representations of the A-invariant subspace and the (A, B)-invariants subspace in the study of the DDP to nonlinear control systems.
Abstract: In the disturbance decoupling problem (DDP) of the linear system (A, B, C), the A-invariant subspace and the (A, B)-invariant subspace are proved to play a key role. The purpose of this paper is to extend the study of the DDP to nonlinear control systems. It must be noted that the problems are stated on the tangent bundle over the state space. The state space and the tangent bundle over it can be identified in the analysis of linear systems, but they must be distinguished in the case of nonlinear systems. So it is needed to establish the corresponding concepts in the state space to extend the A-invariance and the (A, B)-invariance to nonlinear systems. From such a point of view, the invariant structure and the structure which can be modified invariant by nonlinear state feedback are introduced as the state space representations of the A-invariant subspace and the (A, B)-invariant subspace. The main result obtained here, is the algebraic necessary and sufficient condition for the DDP of the nonlinear control systems.

TL;DR: What influences remain in a controlled system if the decoupling controller is designed by using incomplete state variable feedback and it is shown for a binary distillation column that only five state variables need be fed back for design of a decoupled controller.
Abstract: In this paper, it is shown what influences remain in a controlled system if the decoupling controller is designed by using incomplete state variable feedback. A sufficient condition for the existence of a decoupling controller based on the incomplete state variable feedback is derived by using the special structure of the model. It is also shown for a binary distillation column that only five state variables (1st, 2nd, 3rd, (n-l)-th, n-th) need be fed back for design of a decoupling controller.

Abstract: Necessary and sufficient conditions for output feedback decoupilng of linear time-invariant multivariable systems into single input-multioutput subsystems are derived in frequency domain. The conditions imply a new constructive method for determining a constant gain output feedback matrix and some of its elements can be freely chosen to reassign the closed-loop poles.

TL;DR: In this article, a video amplifier has a DC decoupling capacitor at its output and a phase-shifting negative feedback to prevent distortion of long pulses, which consists of two paths.
Abstract: The video amplifier has a DC decoupling capacitor at its output and a phase-shifting negative feedback to prevent distortion of long pulses. The feedback consists of two paths. The first path connects the output of the decoupling capacitor (5) back to the input of the amplifier via a series RC circuit and the second connects the input of the decoupling capacitor (i.e. the output of the amplifier) back to the input of the amplifier via a parallel RC circuit. The input to the second path is capacitively (C2) earthed and connected by a resistor (R3) to the input of the first path which is coupled directly to the amplifier input.

TL;DR: In this article, an electrical connector assembly is adapted to remain coupled to the first housing by a spring mounted to the coupling nut and engaging ratchet teeth carried on an edge of the housing, allowing for an ease in coupling and a greater resistance to decoupling.
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly in which the electrical connectors are capable of being quickly and easily coupled and decoupled with mechanism for preventing accidental decoupling of the connector through vibration. The coupling and decoupling is accomplished by a coupling nut mounted to one electrical connector, with the coupling nut having a screw thread adapted to receive a screw thread on a second connector. The connector assembly is adapted to remain coupled to said first housing by a spring mounted to the coupling nut and engaging ratchet teeth carried on an edge of the housing. The ratchet teeth are more steeply angled on the leading edge engaged during decoupling and more gradually angled on the leading edge during coupling, allowing for an ease in coupling and a greater resistance to decoupling.

TL;DR: In this paper, the problem of decoupling the control of the orbit and attitude of a satellite is examined, using the linearized form of the unified-state and observation models proposed by Altaian.
Abstract: The problem of decoupling the control of the orbit and attitude of a satellite is examined, using the linearized form of the unified-state and observation models proposed by Altaian. Two approaches to decoupling and polo placement are considered, and it is shown that, while it is possible to decouple the system by using state variable feedback and a static linear transformation of the inputs, it is not possible to simultaneously decouple and place all the poles. However, a state feedback matrix can be found which will give a stable decoupled system.
