Gene Therapy for Immunodeficiency Due to Adenosine Deaminase Deficiency
Alessandro Aiuti,Federica Cattaneo,Stefania Galimberti,Ulrike Benninghoff,Barbara Cassani,Luciano Callegaro,Samantha Scaramuzza,Grazia Andolfi,Massimiliano Mirolo,Immacolata Brigida,Antonella Tabucchi,Filippo Carlucci,Martha M. Eibl,Memet Aker,Shimon Slavin,Hamoud Al-Mousa,Abdulaziz Al Ghonaium,Alina Ferster,Andrea Duppenthaler,Luigi D. Notarangelo,Uwe Wintergerst,Rebecca H. Buckley,Marco Bregni,Sarah Marktel,Maria Grazia Valsecchi,Pier Luca Rossi,Fabio Ciceri,Roberto Miniero,Claudio Bordignon,Claudio Bordignon,Maria Grazia Roncarolo +30 more
TL;DR: Gene therapy, combined with reduced-intensity conditioning, is a safe and effective treatment for SCID in patients with ADA deficiency and effective protection against infections and improvement in physical development made a normal lifestyle possible.
Journal ArticleDOI
A treatment protocol for infants younger than 1 year with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (Interfant-99): an observational study and a multicentre randomised trial.
Rob Pieters,Martin Schrappe,Paola De Lorenzo,Ian Hann,Giulio Rossi,Maria S. Felice,Liisa Hovi,Thierry Leblanc,Tomasz Szczepański,Alina Ferster,Gritta Janka,Jeffrey E. Rubnitz,Lewis B. Silverman,Jan Stary,Myriam Campbell,Chi Kong Li,Georg Mann,Ram Suppiah,Andrea Biondi,Ajay Vora,Maria Grazia Valsecchi +20 more
TL;DR: Patients treated with the hybrid protocol, and especially those who responded poorly to prednisone, had higher EFS than most reported outcomes for treatment of infant ALL, and Delayed intensification of chemotherapy did not benefit patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of Escherichia coli-asparaginase with Erwinia-asparaginase in the treatment of childhood lymphoid malignancies: results of a randomized European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer-Children's Leukemia Group phase 3 trial.
Michel Duval,Stefan Suciu,Alina Ferster,Xavier Rialland,Brigitte Nelken,Patrick Lutz,Yves Benoit,Alain Robert,Anne-Marie Manel,Etienne Vilmer,Jacques Otten,N Philippe +11 more
TL;DR: With the dose scheduling used in this protocol, E coli-asparaginase induced more coagulation abnormalities but was superior to Erwinia-asParaginase for the treatment of childhood lymphoid malignancies.
Journal ArticleDOI
CD81 gene defect in humans disrupts CD19 complex formation and leads to antibody deficiency
Menno C. van Zelm,Julie Smet,Brigitte Adams,Françoise Mascart,Liliane Schandené,Françoise Janssen,Alina Ferster,Chiung Chi Kuo,Shoshana Levy,Jacques J.M. van Dongen,Mirjam van der Burg +10 more
TL;DR: What is believed to be the first antibody deficiency syndrome caused by a mutation in the CD81 gene and consequent disruption of the CD19 complex on B cells is presented, which may contribute to unraveling the genetic basis of antibody deficiency syndromes and the nonredundant functions of CD81 in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sickle cell disease: an international survey of results of HLA-identical sibling hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Eliane Gluckman,Barbara Cappelli,Françoise Bernaudin,Myriam Labopin,Fernanda Volt,Jeanette Carreras,Belinda Pinto Simões,Alina Ferster,Sophie Dupont,Josu de la Fuente,Jean-Hugues Dalle,Marco Zecca,Mark C. TL;DR: The excellent outcome of a cohort transplanted over the course of 3 decades confirms the role of HLA-identical sibling transplantation for children and adults with SCD.
