Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanisms of hypergammaglobulinemia and impaired antigen-specific humoral immunity in HIV-1 infection.
Angelo De Milito,Anna Nilsson,Kehmia Titanji,Rigmor Thorstensson,Elisabet Reizenstein,Mitsuo Narita,Sven Grutzmeier,Anders Sönnerborg,Francesca Chiodi +8 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that reduction of memory B lymphocytes in HIV-1 infection correlates with defective humoral immunity and that hyperactivated naive B cells may represent the source of abnormal IgG production in HIV -1 infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gut Microbiota Linked to Sexual Preference and HIV Infection.
Marc Noguera-Julian,Marc Noguera-Julian,Muntsa Rocafort,Yolanda Guillén,Javier Rivera,Maria Casadellà,Piotr Nowak,Falk Hildebrand,Georg Zeller,Mariona Parera,Rocío Bellido,Cristina Simarro Rodríguez,Jorge Carrillo,Beatriz Mothe,Josep Coll,Isabel Bravo,Carla Estany,Cristina Herrero,J Saz,Guillem Sirera,Ariadna Torrela,Jordi Navarro,Manel Crespo,Christian Brander,Eugenia Negredo,Eugenia Negredo,Julià Blanco,Julià Blanco,Francisco Guarner,Maria Luz Calle,Peer Bork,Peer Bork,Anders Sönnerborg,Bonaventura Clotet,Roger Paredes +34 more
TL;DR: The findings indicate that HIV gut microbiome studies must control for HIV risk factors and suggest interventions on gut bacterial richness as possible novel avenues to improve HIV-1-associated immune dysfunction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transmission of Drug-Resistant HIV-1 Is Stabilizing in Europe
Jurgen Vercauteren,Annemarie M. J. Wensing,David A. M. C. van de Vijver,Jan Albert,Claudia Balotta,Osamah Hamouda,Claudia Kücherer,Daniel Struck,Jean-Claude Schmit,Birgitta Åsjö,Marie Bruckova,Ricardo Jorge Camacho,Bonaventura Clotet,Suzie Coughlan,Zehava Grossman,Andrzej Horban,Klaus Korn,Leondios G. Kostrikis,Claus J. Nielsen,Dimitrios Paraskevis,Mario Poljak,Elisabeth Puchhammer-Stöckl,Chiara Riva,Lidia Ruiz,Mika Salminen,Rob Schuurman,Anders Sönnerborg,Danica Staneková,Maja Stanojevic,Anne-Mieke Vandamme,Charles A. Boucher,Charles A. Boucher +31 more
TL;DR: It is found that TDR appears to be stabilizing in Europe, consistent with recent reports of decreasing drug resistance and improved viral suppression in patients treated for HIV-1 infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
T-bet and Eomes Are Differentially Linked to the Exhausted Phenotype of CD8+ T Cells in HIV Infection
Marcus Buggert,Johanna Tauriainen,Takuya Yamamoto,Juliet Wairimu Frederiksen,Martin A. Ivarsson,Jakob Michaëlsson,Ole Lund,Bo Hejdeman,Marianne Jansson,Anders Sönnerborg,Richard A. Koup,Michael R. Betts,Annika C. Karlsson +12 more
TL;DR: This study supports the concept that poor human viral-specific CD8+ T cell functionality is due to an inverse expression balance between T-bet and Eomes, which is not reversed despite long-term viral control through ART, to explain the inability of HIV-specific T cells to control the viral replication post-ART cessation.
Journal ArticleDOI
European guidelines on the clinical management of HIV-1 tropism testing
Linos Vandekerckhove,Annemarie M. J. Wensing,Rolf Kaiser,Françoise Brun-Vézinet,Bonaventura Clotet,A. De Luca,A. De Luca,S. Dressler,Federico García,Anna Maria Geretti,Thomas Klimkait,Klaus Korn,Bernard Masquelier,Carlo Federico Perno,Jonathan M. Schapiro,Vincent Soriano,Anders Sönnerborg,Anne-Mieke Vandamme,Chris Verhofstede,Hauke Walter,Maurizio Zazzi,Charles A. Boucher +21 more
TL;DR: The European Consensus Group on clinical management of tropism testing was established to make recommendations to clinicians and clinical virologists recommended an enhanced sensitivity Trofile assay and V3 population genotyping are the recommended methods.
