Journal ArticleDOI

Patterns of transmitted HIV drug resistance in Europe vary by risk group

TL;DR: MSM showed to have significantly higher TDRM prevalence compared to heterosexuals and IDU, and the increasing NNRTI resistance in MSM is likely to negatively influence the therapy response of first-line therapy, as most include NN RTI drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Limited cross-border infections in patients newly diagnosed with HIV in Europe

TL;DR: The findings indicate that the transmission of HIV-1 in Europe is predominantly occurring between patients from the same country, which could have implications for HIV- 1 transmission prevention programmes.
Journal ArticleDOI

HMGB1 activates replication of latent HIV-1 in a monocytic cell-line, but inhibits HIV-1 replication in primary macrophages

TL;DR: The data suggest that extracellular HMGB1 has a dichotomic effect on the HIV-1 infection in monocytes but not in lymphocytes, and the mechanism of this unexpected finding was explained by anHMGB1-mediated increased release of chemokines that are known to inhibit HIV- 1 replication.
Journal ArticleDOI

Survival and causes of death among HIV-infected patients starting antiretroviral therapy in north-eastern Vietnam

TL;DR: Early deaths occurred after ART, and delay of ART caused a significant decrease in CD4 count and a high mortality, and early ART initiation and intensive follow-up of patients during the first 6 months of ART are therefore necessary to reduce AIDS-related mortality.
