Neuroprotective Effect of Vitamin E Supplementation in Patients Treated With Cisplatin Chemotherapy
Andrea Pace,Antonella Savarese,Mauro Picardo,Vittoria Maresca,Umberto Pacetti,Girolamo Del Monte,Annamaria Biroccio,Carlo Leonetti,Bruno Jandolo,Francesco Cognetti,L. Bove +10 more
TL;DR: The neuroprotective effect of antioxidant supplementation with vitamin E in patients treated with cisplatin chemotherapy was evaluated and the incidence of neurotoxicity was significantly lower in group one than it was in group two.
Journal ArticleDOI
Telomere damage induced by the G-quadruplex ligand RHPS4 has an antitumor effect
Erica Salvati,Carlo Leonetti,Angela Maria Rizzo,Marco Scarsella,Marcella Mottolese,Rossella Galati,Isabella Sperduti,Malcolm F. G. Stevens,Maurizio D'Incalci,Maria A. Blasco,Giovanna Chiorino,Serge Bauwens,Béatrice Horard,Eric Gilson,Antonella Stoppacciaro,Gabriella Zupi,Annamaria Biroccio +16 more
TL;DR: It is shown that RHPS4 triggers a rapid and potent DNA damage response at telomeres in human transformed fibroblasts and melanoma cells, and the key role of telomere-protective factors TRF2 and POT1 in response to this anti-telomere strategy is revealed.
Journal ArticleDOI
c-Myc Phosphorylation Is Required for Cellular Response to Oxidative Stress
Barbara Benassi,Maurizio Fanciulli,Francesco Fiorentino,Alessandro Porrello,Giovanna Chiorino,Massimo Loda,Gabriella Zupi,Annamaria Biroccio +7 more
TL;DR: A further function for c-Myc in determining cellular redox balance is defined, identifying glutathione (GSH) as the leading molecule mediating this process and contributing to oxidative stress resistance in tumor cells, which generally exhibit deregulated c- myc expression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Targeting BRCA1 and BRCA2 Deficiencies with G-Quadruplex-Interacting Compounds
Jutta Zimmer,Eliana M.C. Tacconi,Cecilia Folio,Sophie Badie,Manuela Porru,Kerstin Klare,Manuela Tumiati,Enni Markkanen,Swagata Halder,Anderson J. Ryan,Stephen P. Jackson,Stephen P. Jackson,Kristijan Ramadan,Sergey G. Kuznetsov,Annamaria Biroccio,Julian E. Sale,Madalena Tarsounas +16 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the replication efficiency of guanine-rich (G-rich) telomeric repeats is decreased significantly in cells lacking HR, highlighting the therapeutic potential of G4-stabilizing drugs to selectively eliminate HR-compromised cells and tumors, including those resistant to PARP inhibition.
Journal ArticleDOI
TRF2 and Apollo Cooperate with Topoisomerase 2α to Protect Human Telomeres from Replicative Damage
Jing Ye,Christelle Lenain,Serge Bauwens,Angela Maria Rizzo,Adelaïde Saint-Léger,Adelaïde Saint-Léger,Anaïs Poulet,Delphine Benarroch,Delphine Benarroch,Frédérique Magdinier,Julia Morere,Simon Amiard,Els Verhoeyen,Sébastien Britton,Patrick Calsou,Bernard Salles,Anna Bizard,Marc Nadal,Erica Salvati,Laure Sabatier,Yunlin Wu,Annamaria Biroccio,Arturo Londoño-Vallejo,Marie Josèphe Giraud-Panis,Marie Josèphe Giraud-Panis,Eric Gilson,Eric Gilson +26 more
TL;DR: This work reports that TRF2 regulates the 5' exonuclease activity of its binding partner, Apollo, a member of the metallo-beta-lactamase family that is required for telomere integrity during S phase and suggests that cellular senescence may be caused by topological problems that occur during the replication of the inner portion of telomeres.
