Stephan Braun,Florian D. Vogl,Bjørn Naume,Wolfgang Janni,Michael P. Osborne,R. Charles Coombes,Günter Schlimok,Ingo J. Diel,Bernd Gerber,Gerhard Gebauer,Jean-Yves Pierga,Christian Marth,Daniel Oruzio,Gro Wiedswang,E. F. Solomayer,Günther Kundt,B. Strobl,Tanja Fehm,George Y. Wong,Judith M Bliss,Anne Vincent-Salomon,Klaus Pantel +21 more
TL;DR: The presence of micrometastasis in the bone marrow at the time of diagnosis of breast cancer is associated with a poor prognosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epigenetic stem cell signature in cancer.
Martin Widschwendter,Heidi Fiegl,Heidi Fiegl,Daniel Egle,Elisabeth Mueller-Holzner,Gilbert Spizzo,Christian Marth,Daniel J. Weisenberger,Mihaela Campan,Joanne P. Young,Ian Jacobs,Peter W. Laird +11 more
TL;DR: It is reported that stem cell Polycomb group targets are up to 12-fold more likely to have cancer-specific promoter DNA hypermethylation than non-targets, supporting a stem cell origin of cancer in which reversible gene repression is replaced by permanent silencing, locking the cell into a perpetual state of self-renewal and thereby predisposing to subsequent malignant transformation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reed,Martin Widschwendter,Olle Sangfelt,Charles Spruck +25 more
TL;DR: This study is the first comprehensive screen of FBXW7 mutations in various human malignancies and shows that FBxW7 is a general tumor suppressor in human cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circulating Tumor-Specific DNA: A Marker for Monitoring Efficacy of Adjuvant Therapy in Cancer Patients
Heidi Fiegl,Simone Millinger,Elisabeth Mueller-Holzner,Christian Marth,Christian Ensinger,Andreas Berger,Helmut Klocker,Georg Goebel,Martin Widschwendter +8 more
TL;DR: RASSF1A methylation 1 year after primary surgery (and during adjuvant tamoxifen therapy) was an independent predictor of poor outcome, with a relative risk for relapse of 5.1 (1.3-19.8) and for death of 6.9 ( 1.9-25.9).
