Stable transformation and regeneration of transgenic plants of Pinus radiata D. Don
Christian Walter,Lynette J. Grace,Allan R. Wagner,Derek W. R. White,A. R. Walden,S. S. Donaldson,H. Hinton,Richard C. Gardner,Dale R. Smith +8 more
TL;DR: A biolistic particle delivery system was used to genetically transform embryogenic tissue of Pinus radiata, using a uidA reporter gene under the control of either the tandem CaMV 35S or the artificial Emu promoter, and the npt II selectable marker controlled by the CaMv 35S promoter.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transgenic manipulation of the metabolism of polyamines in poplar cells.
Pratiksha Bhatnagar,Bernadette M. Glasheen,Suneet K. Bains,Stephanie Long,Rakesh Minocha,Christian Walter,Subhash C. Minocha +6 more
TL;DR: Transgenic expression of a heterologous odc gene can be used to modulate putrescine metabolism in plant cells and assimilation of nitrogen into glutamine keeps pace with an increased demand for its use for putresCine production.
Journal ArticleDOI
PRFLL – a Pinus radiata homologue of FLORICAULA and LEAFY is expressed in buds containing vegetative shoot and undifferentiated male cone primordia
TL;DR: Cl cloning of a different Pinusradiata FLO/LFY-l ike cDNA, PRFLL, in a conifer species Pinus radiata is reported, consistent withPRFLL being involved in determination of the male cone primordium identity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetically engineered trees for plantation forests: key considerations for environmental risk assessment
Hely Häggman,Alan Raybould,Aluízio Borém,Thomas R. Fox,Levis Handley,Magnus Hertzberg,Meng-Zu Lu,Philip Macdonald,Taichi Oguchi,Giancarlo Pasquali,Les Pearson,Gary F. Peter,Hector Quemada,Armand Séguin,Kylie Tattersall,Eugênio C. Ulian,Christian Walter,Morven A. McLean +17 more
TL;DR: This paper examines how the ERA paradigm used for GE crop plants may be applied to GE trees for use in plantation forests and emphasizes the importance of differentiating between ERA for confined field trials of GE trees, and ERA for unconfined or commercial-scale releases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Insect-resistant transgenic Pinus radiata.
TL;DR: Bioassays with larvae of the painted apple moth, Teia anartoides, demonstrated that transgenic plants displayed variable levels of resistance to insect damage, with one transgenic line being highly resistant to feeding damage.
