Common Genetic Polymorphisms Influence Blood Biomarker Measurements in COPD
Wei Sun,Katerina Kechris,Sean Jacobson,M. Bradley Drummond,Gregory A. Hawkins,Jenny Yang,Ting Huei Chen,Pedro Miguel Quibrera,Wayne Anderson,R. Graham Barr,Patricia V. Basta,Eugene R. Bleecker,Terri H. Beaty,Richard Casaburi,Peter J. Castaldi,Michael H. Cho,Alejandro P. Comellas,James D. Crapo,Gerard J. Criner,Dawn L. DeMeo,Stephanie A. Christenson,David Couper,Jeffrey L. Curtis,Claire M. Doerschuk,Christine M. Freeman,Natalia Gouskova,MeiLan K. Han,Nicola A. Hanania,Nadia N. Hansel,Craig P. Hersh,Eric A. Hoffman,Robert J. Kaner,Richard E. Kanner,Eric C. Kleerup,Sharon M. Lutz,Fernando J. Martinez,Deborah A. Meyers,Stephen P. Peters,Elizabeth A. Regan,Stephen I. Rennard,Mary Beth Scholand,Edwin K. Silverman,Prescott G. Woodruff,Wanda K. O'Neal,Russell P. Bowler,COPDGene Investigators +45 more
TL;DR: It is recommended that protein biomarker-disease association studies take into account the potential effect of common local SNPs and that pQTLs be integrated along with eQ TLs to uncover disease mechanisms, and large-scale blood biomarker studies would also benefit from close attention to the ABO blood group.
Journal ArticleDOI
Five-Year Progression of Emphysema and Air Trapping at CT in Smokers with and Those without Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: Results from the COPDGene Study.
Esther Pompe,Matthew Strand,Eva M. van Rikxoort,Eric A. Hoffman,R Graham Barr,Jean-Paul Charbonnier,Stephen M. Humphries,MeiLan K. Han,John E. Hokanson,Barry J. Make,Elizabeth A. Regan,Edwin K. Silverman,James D. Crapo,David A. Lynch,COPDGene Investigators +14 more
TL;DR: CT measures of emphysema and air trapping increased over 5 years in smokers, and forced expiratory volume in one second accounted for less than 10% of empysema progression and less than 50% of air trapping progression detected at CT.
Journal ArticleDOI
Airway wall thickening on CT: Relation to smoking status and severity of COPD
Jean-Paul Charbonnier,Esther Pompe,Camille M. Moore,Stephen M. Humphries,Bram van Ginneken,Barry J. Make,Elizabeth A. Regan,James D. Crapo,Eva M. van Rikxoort,David A. Lynch,COPDGene Investigators +10 more
TL;DR: Pi10 is a clinically relevant biomarker of smoking-related airway injury in smokers with and without COPD and the change in Pi10 with change in smoking status suggests that it can quantify a reversible component ofsmoking- related airway inflammation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Elevated circulating MMP-9 is linked to increased COPD exacerbation risk in SPIROMICS and COPDGene
J. Michael Wells,J. Michael Wells,Margaret M. Parker,Robert A. Oster,Russell P. Bowler,Mark T. Dransfield,Mark T. Dransfield,Surya P. Bhatt,Michael H. Cho,Victor Kim,Jeffrey L. Curtis,Fernando J. Castaldi,Amit Gaggar,Amit Gaggar,COPDGene Investigators +25 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided for MMP-9 as a prognostic biomarker and potential therapeutic target in COPD as well as independently associated with AECOPD risk in 2 well-characterized COPD cohorts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Race and Gender Disparities are Evident in COPD Underdiagnoses Across all Severities of Measured Airflow Obstruction.
A. James Mamary,Jeffery I Stewart,Gregory L. Kinney,John E. Hokanson,Kartik Shenoy,Mark T. Dransfield,Marilyn G. Foreman,Gwendolyn B. Vance,Gerard J. Criner,COPDGene Investigators +9 more
TL;DR: Race and gender were evaluated to determine the influence of race, gender and Global initiative for chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) stage on prevalence of prior COPD diagnosis at COPDGene® enrollment.
