Immune biology of glioma-associated macrophages and microglia: functional and therapeutic implications.
Jun Wei,Peiwen Chen,Pravesh Gupta,Martina Ott,Daniel Zamler,Cynthia Kassab,Krishna P. Bhat,Michael A. Curran,John de Groot,Amy B. Heimberger +9 more
TL;DR: Glioma associated macrophage and microglia immune biology is discussed in the context of their identity, molecular drivers of recruitment, nomenclature and functional paradoxes, therapeutic reprogramming and polarization strategies, relevant challenges, and the perspectives on therapeutic modulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Targeting the αv integrin/TGF-β axis improves natural killer cell function against glioblastoma stem cells.
Hila Shaim,Mayra Shanley,Rafet Basar,May Daher,Joy Gumin,Daniel Zamler,Nadima Uprety,Fang Wang,Yuefan Huang,Konrad Gabrusiewicz,Qi Miao,Jinzhuang Dou,Abdullah Alsuliman,Lucila Nassif Kerbauy,Sunil Acharya,Vakul Mohanty,Mayela Mendt,Sufang Li,Jun Jun Lu,Jun Wei,Natalie W. Fowlkes,Elif Gokdemir,Emily Ensley,Mecit Kaplan,Cynthia Kassab,Li Li,Gonca Ozcan,Pinaki P. Banerjee,Yifei Shen,April L. Gilbert,Corry M. Jones,Mustafa H Bdiwi,Ana K. Nunez-Cortes,Enli Liu,Jun Yu,Nobuhiko Imahashi,Luis Muniz-Feliciano,Ye Li,Jian Hu,Giulio Draetta,David Marin,Dihua Yu,Stephan Mielke,Matthias Eyrich,Richard E. Champlin,Ken Chen,Frederick F. Lang,Elizabeth J. Shpall,Amy B. Heimberger,Katayoun Rezvani +49 more
TL;DR: The authors showed that GSCs, but not normal astrocytes, are sensitive to lysis by healthy allogeneic natural killer (NK) cells in vitro, and suggested the αv integrin/TGF-β axis as a potentially useful therapeutic target in GBM.
Journal ArticleDOI
Verteporfin inhibits PD-L1 through autophagy and the STAT1-IRF1-TRIM28 signaling axis, exerting antitumor efficacy
Jiyong Liang,Lulu Wang,Chao Wang,Chao Wang,Jianfeng Shen,Bojin Su,Anantha Marisetty,Dexing Fang,Cynthia Kassab,Kang Jin Jeong,Wei Zhao,Yiling Lu,Abhinav K. Jain,Zhicheng Zhou,Han Liang,Shao Cong Sun,Changming Lu,Zhi-Xiang Xu,Qinghua Yu,Shan Shao,Xiaohua Chen,Meng Gao,Francois X. Claret,Zhiyong Ding,Jian Chen,Pingsheng Chen,Michelle Craig Barton,Guang Peng,Gordon B. Mills,Amy B. Heimberger +29 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used reverse-phase protein arrays to assess drugs in use or likely to enter trials, and identified verteporfin as a possible small-molecule inhibitor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative Molecular Life History of Spontaneous Canine and Human Gliomas.
Samirkumar B. Amin,Kevin J. Anderson,C. Elizabeth Boudreau,Emmanuel Martinez-Ledesma,Emre Kocakavuk,Kevin C. Johnson,Floris P. Barthel,Frederick S. Varn,Cynthia Kassab,Xiaoyang Ling,Hoon Kim,Mary Barter,Ching C. Lau,Chew Yee Ngan,Margaret Chapman,Jennifer W. Koehler,James P. Long,Andrew D. Miller,C. Ryan Miller,Brian F. Porter,Daniel R. Rissi,Christina Mazcko,Amy K. LeBlanc,Peter J Dickinson,Rebecca A. Packer,Amanda R. Taylor,John H. Rossmeisl,Kevin D. Woolard,Amy B. Heimberger,Jonathan M. Levine,Roel G.W. Verhaak +30 more
TL;DR: Canine gliomas showed high similarity with human Pediatrics per robust aneuploidy, mutational rates, relative timing of mutations, and DNA-methylation patterns, and cross-species comparative genomic analysis provides unique insights into glioma etiology and the chronology of gliomatic somatic alterations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Radiation with STAT3 Blockade Triggers Dendritic Cell-T cell Interactions in the Glioma Microenvironment and Therapeutic Efficacy.
Martina Ott,Cynthia Kassab,Anantha Marisetty,Yuuri Hashimoto,Jun Wei,Daniel Zamler,Jia Shiun Leu,Karl Heinz Tomaszowski,Aria Sabbagh,Dexing Fang,Pravesh Gupta,Waldemar Priebe,Rafal Zielinski,Jared K. Burks,James P. Long,Ling Yuan Kong,Gregory N. Fuller,John DeGroot,Erik P. Sulman,Amy B. Heimberger +19 more
TL;DR: The combined effect of an inhibitor of STAT3 and whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT) enhances the therapeutic effect against gliomas in the CNS by inducing dendritic cell and T-cell interactions in the central nervous system tumor.
