Journal ArticleDOI

Global threat to agriculture from invasive species

TL;DR: Overall, the biggest agricultural producers (China and the United States) could experience the greatest absolute cost from further species invasions, however, developing countries, in particular, Sub-Saharan African countries, appear most vulnerable in relative terms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Copy Number Variation of Multiple Genes at Rhg1 Mediates Nematode Resistance in Soybean

TL;DR: Gene silencing showed that genes in a 31-kilobase segment at rhg1-b, encoding an amino acid transporter, an α-SNAP protein, and a WI12 (wound-inducible domain) protein, each contribute to resistance against soybean cyst nematode.
Journal ArticleDOI

Understanding Plant Immunity as a Surveillance System to Detect Invasion

TL;DR: An alternative view of plant innate immunity as a system that evolves to detect invasion is discussed, which accommodates the range from mutualistic to parasitic symbioses that plants form with diverse organisms, as well as the spectrum of ligands that the plant immune system perceives.
Journal ArticleDOI

Predicting the economic impact of an invasive species on an ecosystem service.

TL;DR: A stochastic bioeconomic model is developed that enables the economic impact of an invasive pest to be estimated before its arrival, based on relatively poorly specified ecological and economic parameters, and suggests that current invasion response funding arrangements in Australia require amendment.
