The Listeria transcriptional landscape from saprophytism to virulence
Alejandro Toledo-Arana,Olivier Dussurget,Olivier Dussurget,Olivier Dussurget,Georgios Nikitas,Georgios Nikitas,Nina Sesto,Nina Sesto,Nina Sesto,Hélène Guet-Revillet,Hélène Guet-Revillet,Hélène Guet-Revillet,Damien Balestrino,Damien Balestrino,Damien Balestrino,Edmund Loh,Jonas Gripenland,Teresa Tiensuu,Karolis Vaitkevicius,Mathieu Barthelemy,Massimo Vergassola,Massimo Vergassola,Marie-Anne Nahori,Marie-Anne Nahori,Marie-Anne Nahori,Guillaume Soubigou,Béatrice Regnault,Jean-Yves Coppée,Marc Lecuit,Jörgen Johansson,Pascale Cossart,Pascale Cossart,Pascale Cossart +32 more
TL;DR: Using tiling arrays and RNAs from wild-type and mutant bacteria grown in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo, the transcription of its entire genome is analysed and it is discovered that riboswitches can act as terminators for upstream genes.
Journal ArticleDOI
A trans-Acting Riboswitch Controls Expression of the Virulence Regulator PrfA in Listeria monocytogenes
Edmund Loh,Olivier Dussurget,Olivier Dussurget,Olivier Dussurget,Jonas Gripenland,Karolis Vaitkevicius,Teresa Tiensuu,Pierre Mandin,Pierre Mandin,Pierre Mandin,Francis Repoila,Francis Repoila,Francis Repoila,Carmen Buchrieser,Pascale Cossart,Pascale Cossart,Pascale Cossart,Jörgen Johansson +17 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that two S-adenosylmethionine riboswitches, SreA and SreB, can also function in trans and act as noncoding RNAs in Listeria monocytogenes, highlighting a link between bacterial virulence and nutrient availability.
Journal ArticleDOI
RNAs: regulators of bacterial virulence
Jonas Gripenland,Sakura Netterling,Edmund Loh,Teresa Tiensuu,Alejandro Toledo-Arana,Jörgen Johansson +5 more
TL;DR: The mechanisms by which these regulatory RNAs, together with accessory proteins such as RNases, control the fate of mRNAs and proteins and how this regulation influences virulence in pathogenic bacteria are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Temperature triggers immune evasion by Neisseria meningitidis
Edmund Loh,Elisabeth Kugelberg,Alexander Tracy,Qian Zhang,Bridget Gollan,Helen A. Ewles,Ronald Chalmers,Vladimir Pelicic,Christoph M. Tang,Christoph M. Tang +9 more
TL;DR: Thermoregulation of immune defence could offer an adaptive advantage to the meningococcus during co-infection with other pathogens, and promote the emergence of virulence in an otherwise commensal bacterium.
Journal ArticleDOI
Temperature dependence of absorptance in laser damage of metallic mirrors: I. Melting
M. Sparks,Edmund Loh +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an exact premelting temperature result for the case of optical absorptance A = Ai + A1Ts indicates that the surface temperature rise Ts reduces the theoretical threshold (Itp)m for raising Ts to the melting temperature Tm by a factor of 3.6 to 1.6, typically.
