Fire and site type effects on the long-term carbon and nitrogen balance in pristine Siberian Scots pine forests

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of fire and site type on carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) balances were determined by following the change of total and component C and N pools along four chronosequences of fire-prone Siberian Scots pine ecosystems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Conversion of cropland into grassland: Implications for soil organic‐carbon stocks in two soils with different texture

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of land-use conversion on organic carbon (SOC) stocks in cropland and grassland soil profiles was investigated, and the authors concluded that fresh organic carbon was effectively translocated into the subsoil.
Journal ArticleDOI

Calcite Biomineralization by Bacterial Isolates from the Recently Discovered Pristine Karstic Herrenberg Cave

TL;DR: The results of this study highlighted the importance of combining various techniques in order to understand the geomicrobiology of karstic caves, but further studies are needed to determine whether the mineralogical biosignatures found in nutrient-rich media can also be found in oligotrophic caves.
