TL;DR: Newborn screening in 11 programs in the United States identified SCID in 1 in 58,000 infants, with high survival, and the usefulness of detection of non-SCID T-cell lymphopenia by the same screening remains to be determined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Newborn Screening for SCID in New York State: Experience from the First Two Years
Beth Vogel,Vincent R. Bonagura,Geoffrey A. Weinberg,Mark Ballow,Jason T. Isabelle,Lisa DiAntonio,April Parker,Allison J. Young,Charlotte Cunningham-Rundles,Chin-To Fong,Jocelyn Celestin,Heather K. Lehman,Arye Rubinstein,Subhadra Siegel,Leonard B. Weiner,Carlos A. Saavedra-Matiz,Denise M. Kay,Michele Caggana +17 more
TL;DR: A large number of infants with abnormal TRECs and subsequent idiopathic T-cell lymphopenia are identified during the first 2 years of newborn screening for severe combined immunodeficiency in New York State, consistent with the incidence observed by other states screening for SCID.
Journal ArticleDOI
Review of Family Relational Stress and Pediatric Asthma: The Value of Biopsychosocial Systemic Models
TL;DR: This paper uses electronic database searches and conducted an integrated analysis of selected epidemiological, longitudinal, and empirical studies to integrate social, psychological, and biological literatures on relations between family/parental stress and pediatric asthma, and presents two multilevel systems models as potential prototypes for other such models.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of neutrophils in host defense and disease.
Heather K. Lehman,Brahm H. Segal +1 more
TL;DR: A greater understanding of neutrophil plasticity in conditions including acute organ injury, autoimmunity, and variable effects on the tumor microenvironment is likely to pave the way to new therapeutic approaches.
Journal ArticleDOI
Skin Manifestations of Primary Immune Deficiency
TL;DR: The reader is provided with a differential diagnosis of primary immune defects to consider for the most common skin manifestations and awareness of associations between skin findings and immune deficiency may aide in the early detection and treatment of serious or life-threatening immunologic defects.
