Journal ArticleDOI
Optical nano-imaging of gate-tunable graphene plasmons
Jianing Chen,Michela Badioli,Pablo Alonso-González,Sukosin Thongrattanasiri,Florian Huth,Johann Osmond,Marko Spasenović,Alba Centeno,Amaia Pesquera,Philippe Godignon,Amaia Zurutuza Elorza,Nicolas Camara,F. Javier García de Abajo,Rainer Hillenbrand,Frank H. L. Koppens +14 more
TL;DR: A successful alliance between nanoelectronics and nano-optics enables the development of active subwavelength-scale optics and a plethora of nano-optoelectronic devices and functionalities, such as tunable metamaterials, nanoscale optical processing, and strongly enhanced light–matter interactions for quantum devices and biosensing applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Controlling graphene plasmons with resonant metal antennas and spatial conductivity patterns
Pablo Alonso-González,Alexey Y. Nikitin,Federico Golmar,Alba Centeno,Amaia Pesquera,Saül Vélez,Jianing Chen,Gabriele Navickaite,Frank H. L. Koppens,Amaia Zurutuza,Fèlix Casanova,Luis E. Hueso,Rainer Hillenbrand,Rainer Hillenbrand +13 more
TL;DR: A versatile platform technology based on resonant optical antennas and conductivity patterns for launching and control of propagating graphene plasmons, an essential step for the development of graphene plasmonic circuits.
Journal ArticleDOI
Resolving the electromagnetic mechanism of surface-enhanced light scattering at single hot spots
Pablo Alonso-González,Pablo Albella,Martin Schnell,Jianing Chen,Florian Huth,Aitzol García-Etxarri,Aitzol García-Etxarri,Aitzol García-Etxarri,Fèlix Casanova,Federico Golmar,Libe Arzubiaga,Luis E. Hueso,Javier Aizpurua,Rainer Hillenbrand +13 more
TL;DR: Experimental evidence is provided that the intensity elastically scattered off the object scales with the fourth power of the local field enhancement provided by the antenna, and that the underlying electromagnetic mechanism is identical to the one commonly accepted in surface-enhanced Raman scattering.
Journal ArticleDOI
Designer Magnetoplasmonics with Nickel Nanoferromagnets
Valentina Bonanni,Valentina Bonanni,Stefano Bonetti,Tavakol Pakizeh,Zhaleh Pirzadeh,Jianing Chen,Josep Nogués,Josep Nogués,Paolo Vavassori,Rainer Hillenbrand,Johan Åkerman,Johan Åkerman,Alexandre Dmitriev +12 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated how the concerted action of nanoplasmonics and magnetization can manipulate the sign of rotation of the reflected light’s polarization in ferromagnetic nanomaterials and how this effect can be dynamically controlled and employed to devise conceptually new schemes for biochemosensing.
Journal ArticleDOI
A mid-infrared biaxial hyperbolic van der Waals crystal
Zebo Zheng,Ningsheng Xu,Stefano Luigi Oscurato,Michele Tamagnone,Fengsheng Sun,Yinzhu Jiang,Yanlin Ke,Jianing Chen,Wuchao Huang,William L. Wilson,Antonio Ambrosio,Shaozhi Deng,Huanjun Chen +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a van der Waals crystal, α-MoO3, is shown to support in-plane hyperbolic polariton guided modes at mid-infrared frequencies without the need for patterning.
