Genetic landscape of the people of India: A canvas for disease gene exploration

Samir K. Brahmachari, +150 more
- 01 Apr 2008 -
TL;DR: High levels of genetic divergence are observed between groups of populations that cluster largely on the basis of ethnicity and language in diverse populations of India.
Journal ArticleDOI

Detection of altered global DNA methylation in coronary artery disease patients.

TL;DR: The methylation status of genomic DNA from peripheral lymphocytes in a cohort of 287 individuals was evaluated and a significant positive correlation of global DNA methylation with plasma homocysteine levels in CAD patients was observed.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Indian Genome Variation database (IGVdb): a project overview

Samir K. Brahmachari, +98 more
- 01 Nov 2005 -
TL;DR: The Indian Genome Variation (IGV) consortium as discussed by the authors is the first large-scale comprehensive study of the structure of the Indian population with wide-reaching implications, which aims to provide data on validated SNPs and repeats, both novel and reported, along with gene duplications, in over a thousand genes, in 15,000 individuals drawn from Indian subpopulations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Homocysteine levels are associated with MTHFR A1298C polymorphism in Indian population

TL;DR: The fact that MTHFR A1298C polymorphism is significantly associated with homocysteine levels, and that the CC genotype is present at a higher frequency in the Indian population, makes it extremely relevant in terms of its potential impact on hyperhomocysteinemia.
