Koeleman,Dick Lindhout,Ulrich Stephani,Stefan Schreiber,Evan E. Eichler,Thomas Sander +43 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that 15q13.3 microdeletions constitute the most prevalent risk factor for common epilepsies identified to date.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recurrent microdeletions at 15q11.2 and 16p13.11 predispose to idiopathic generalized epilepsies
Carolien G.F. de Kovel,Holger Trucks,Ingo Helbig,Heather C Mefford,Carl Baker,Costin Leu,Christian Kluck,Hiltrud Muhle,Sarah von Spiczak,Philipp Ostertag,Tanja Obermeier,Ailing A. Kleefuß-Lie,Kerstin Hallmann,Michael Steffens,Verena Gaus,Karl Martin Klein,Hajo M. Hamer,Felix Rosenow,Eva H. Brilstra,Dorothée G.A. Kasteleijn-Nolst Trenité,Marielle E M Swinkels,Yvonne G. Koeleman,Dick Lindhout,Evan E. Eichler,Thomas Sander,Thomas Sander +43 more
TL;DR: The present results indicate an involvement of micro deletions at 15q11.2 and 16p13.11 in epileptogenesis and strengthen the evidence that recurrent microdeletions in this cohort confer a pleiotropic susceptibility effect to a broad range of neuropsychiatric disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mutations in DEPDC5 cause familial focal epilepsy with variable foci
Leanne M. Dibbens,Boukje de Vries,Simona Donatello,Sarah E. Heron,Bree L. Hodgson,Satyan Chintawar,Douglas E. Crompton,James N. Hughes,Susannah T. TL;DR: Study of families with focal epilepsy that were too small for conventional clinical diagnosis with FFEVF identified DEPDC5 mutations in approximately 12% of families, establishing high frequency mutations as a common cause of familial focal epilepsies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intravenous levetiracetam in the treatment of benzodiazepine refractory status epilepticus
Susanne Knake,J. Gruener,K. Hattemer,Karl Martin Klein,Sebastian Bauer,W. H. Oertel,H. M. Hamer,Felix Rosenow +7 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that ivLEV may be an alternative for the treatment of SE in the future, even in patients that did not respond to benzodiazepines, and a large prospective, randomised, controlled study is warranted to investigate the efficacy and safety.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: Children were more often drug-free; temporal lobe surgeries had the best seizure outcomes; and a longer duration of epilepsy was associated with reduced chance of favourable seizure outcomes and drug freedom.
