TL;DR: It is demonstrated that vascular risk factor profiles and extent of WMH burden differ by CCS subtype, with the highest lesion burden detected in patients with SAO, which further support the small vessel hypothesis ofWMH lesions detected on brain MRI of patients with ischemic stroke.

TL;DR: Ischemic stroke subtypes differ between the two phenotypes and diabetes and male sex have a stronger association with PCiS than ACiS, which accounted for 47% of solitary brainstem infarctions.
