Journal ArticleDOI
What do near-term observations tell us about long-term developments in greenhouse gas emissions?
Detlef P. van Vuuren,James A. Edmonds,Steven J. Smith,Katherine Calvin,Joseph Karas,Mikiko Kainuma,Nebojsa Nakicenovic,Nebojsa Nakicenovic,Keywan Riahi,Bas van Ruijven,Robert Swart,Allison M. Thomson +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors use long-term historical emissions trends to show that short-term observations are very poor indicators of longterm future emissions developments, and they conclude that the performance of long term scenarios should be evaluated against the appropriate, corresponding longterm variables and trends.
Journal ArticleDOI
A framework for national scenarios with varying emission reductions
Shinichiro Fujimori,Shinichiro Fujimori,Shinichiro Fujimori,Volker Krey,Detlef P. van Vuuren,Detlef P. van Vuuren,Ken Oshiro,Masahiro Sugiyama,Puttipong Chunark,Bundit Limmeechokchai,Shivika Mittal,Shivika Mittal,Osamu Nishiura,Chan Park,Salony Rajbhandari,Diego Silva Herran,Tran Thi Thanh Tu,Shiya Zhao,Yuki Ochi,Priyardarshi R. Shukla,Toshihiko Masui,Phuong V. H. Nguyen,Anique-Marie Cabardos,Keywan Riahi,Keywan Riahi +24 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a systematic and standardized, yet flexible, scenario framework varying 2050 emissions to build long-term national energy and climate mitigation scenarios to guide individual national scenario creation in a standardized way.
Journal ArticleDOI
Demography's Role in Sustainable Development
Wolfgang Lutz,W.P. Butz,Marcia C. Castro,Partha Dasgupta,Paul Demeny,Isaac Ehrlich,Silvia Giorguli,Demissie Habte,Werner Haug,Adrian C. Hayes,Michael Herrmann,Leiwen Jiang,David A. TL;DR: Invest in human capital—people's education and health—to slow population growth, accelerate the transition to green technologies, and improve people's adaptive capacity to environmental change.
Journal ArticleDOI
