Aortic Diameter ≥5.5 cm Is Not a Good Predictor of Type A Aortic Dissection Observations From the International Registry of Acute Aortic Dissection (IRAD)
Linda Pape,Thomas T. Tsai,Eric M. Isselbacher,Jae K. Oh,Patrick T. O'Gara,Arturo Evangelista,Rossella Fattori,Gabriel Meinhardt,Santi Trimarchi,Eduardo Bossone,Toru Suzuki,Jeanna V. Cooper,James B. Froehlich,Christoph A. Nienaber,Kim A. Eagle +14 more
TL;DR: The majority of patients with acute type A acute aortic dissection present with aorti diameters <5.5 cm and thus do not fall within current guidelines for elective aneurysm surgery, and methods other than size measurement of the ascending aorta are needed to identify patients at risk for dissection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Insights From the International Registry of Acute Aortic Dissection: A 20-Year Experience of Collaborative Clinical Research.
Arturo Evangelista,Eric M. Isselbacher,Eduardo Bossone,Thomas G. Gleason,Marco Di Eusanio,Udo Sechtem,Marek Ehrlich,Santi Trimarchi,Alan C. Braverman,Truls Myrmel,Kevin M. Harris,Stuart Hutchinson,Patrick T. O'Gara,Toru Suzuki,Christoph A. Nienaber,Kim A. Eagle +15 more
TL;DR: The International Registry of Acute Aortic Dissection (IRAD) was established in 1996 with the mission to raise awareness of this condition and provide insights to guide diagnosis and treatment as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Partial thrombosis of the false lumen in patients with acute type B aortic dissection.
Thomas T. Tsai,Arturo Evangelista,Christoph A. Nienaber,Truls Myrmel,Gabriel Meinhardt,Jeanna V. Cooper,Dean E. Smith,Toru Suzuki,Rossella Fattori,Alfredo Llovet,James B. Froehlich,Stuart Hutchison,Alessandro Distante,Thoralf M. Sundt,Joshua A. Beckman,James L. Januzzi,Eric M. Isselbacher,Kim A. Eagle +17 more
TL;DR: Mortality is high after discharge from the hospital among patients with type B acute aortic dissection and partial thrombosis of the false lumen, as compared with complete patency, is a significant independent predictor of postdischarge mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative determinants of 4-year cardiovascular event rates in stable outpatients at risk of or with atherothrombosis
Deepak L. Bhatt,Kim A. Eagle,E. Magnus Ohman,Alan T. Hirsch,Shinya Goto,Elizabeth M. Mahoney,Peter W.F. Wilson,Mark J. Alberts,Ralph B. D'Agostino,Chiau Suong Liau,Jean-Louis Mas,Joachim Röther,Sidney C. Smith,Genevieve Salette,Charles F. Contant,Joseph M. Massaro,Ph. Gabriel Steg +16 more
TL;DR: Clinical descriptors can assist clinicians in identifying high-risk patients within the broad range of risk for outpatients with atherothrombosis using simple clinical descriptors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aortic Dissection: New Frontiers in Diagnosis and Management Part I: From Etiology to Diagnostic Strategies
TL;DR: This comprehensive review is organized in two parts, with a focus on the etiology, natural history, and classification (with vascular staging) of aortic wall disease in Part I and emphasis on therapeutic management and follow-up in Part II.
